If it's anything like it's predecessors...

It'll be useless until it's 2nd or 3rd revision!

I don't really care about Windows 7 to be honest.

They really need to sort Vista out first.

I'm happy with OSX and XP :)

I've got Vista on my laptop, and I'm not impressed in the least. It would be nice if just one time Microsoft actually released a product that was something other than a public beta test.

To be honest I think the only reason why Microsoft are bringing out a new OS is because they know how bad they failed with vista,

I think they should at least try and sort vista out before they make a new OS as they have forced so many people into getting vista

I'm in the Fix It, Don't Redesign It camp. I liked W2k and I like WinXP. It seems their other stuff (remember WinME?) consistantly falls short of the mark. Win98 was simply a 5,000-bug-fix Win95.

Open Source is definitely the way to go.

Mac is probably where we are headed....

Not sure what to do about transferring all of our stuff that only runs on Windows though. Of course you can use Parallels, but that kind of removes the point of getting away from Microsoft.

Your best bet is probably to use something like Rivendell:

http://www.rivendellaudio.org/

I'm not sure if it encodes too, but XMMS (the Linux version of Winamp) can encode so you could just use that.

Shoutcast server works great on Linux. SAM broadcaster was built for Windows. There are plenty of alternatives for Linux broadcasting. Some of them a lot more impressive than SAM.

This link has a lot of good automation for Linux:

Same here. Xp works fine and there is no need to switch until they stop coming out with security breach fixes.

I used Win 98 from 1999 to 2006 before I made the switch to XP SP2. That's like 7 years of hell.

WinXP SP3 on my music PC and SAM runs just fine on there. Vista on my more powerful pc and it hates SAM, well...as far as mic delay went at least.

I am not that interested in Win"doze" 7 right now as I guess it will be like Vista on slow pc's...it just won't run.

As for moving to Linux or other, it's not for me. Would be nice to have somethin new, but in reality, windows does everythin I need right now I guess, so why change?

I bought a PC with Vista on it, and I hated it. So I bought myself a new harddrive and upgraded to XP :P

If Microsoft had not delayed Vista's release so much, not as many ppl would be trying to preserve XP. It has been around for 5 years before Vista's release.

I'm using Windows 7 on a Core 2 Quad, Runs like a dream. Prophet, Audition, SAM, and whatever runs great! I'm a windows man, with it through and through! And yes, Vista was MS's version of hell lol. I'm extremely pleased with Windows 7. I would recommend trying it before you knock it.

For good or for bad, I loved Windows 2000 Pro. I gave up on Windows after that.

Linux does absolutely every thing I need. * IF * I need to run windows stuff, I use Crossover Pro.

My next big adventure is to try OpenBSD and really become a Uber Geek.

Thats not true , no problem running shoutcast on Linux, just use wine. You can even run winamp.
I even got ZaraRadio working on the latest version of Ubuntu last week running under wine. Didnt get as far as running two soundcards.
