We are introducing stream host reviews next month. Thanks to StreamAlerts (http://www.streamalerts.com) for the monitoring!

We need your comments and suggestions on what you would like to see as features.. Please tell us!

We use HyperSpin (http://www.hyperspin.com/publicreport/19604/42162) to monitor us, will that matter to you?

Nope, :)
We are using Streamalerts to monitor all our test streams. When you submit your test stream/streamhost you just need a test i.p and port that is up all the time.

this is already done by rtb, and for many years.

Agreed it is, but there is not enough attention to detail as Jays time is limited these days.

The idea of this is for a more fuller reviews system giving the broadcaster all the information they need at their fingertips.

Many hosts offer many different services and radio toolbox only monitors one single stream in 1 single location whilst http://www.streamalerts.com/ offer many forms of monitoring from shoutcast / icecast / Windows Media & Flash media enabling broadcasting world to become even more of a resource centre.

Its not exactly a full service like nick@ss said. Its not exactly up to date either. We are making these more fuller, more detailed and more useful for people. We are really just helping people/hosts out!

Watch what happens ;)

This is going to be very usefull as I intend to in the future stream my sets over the net, but first I must get some online DJing gigs to shake of the rust as I stopped DJing professionaly in 2001, only hobby DJ since then.

When I submitted my company the text fields were missing on the page. Couldn't add any information. May want to have a look.

Hmm.. theres a problem with IE users..

I will take a look at it :)
Send the missing info my way (private message me) and i will fill it in!

Also the I.P and Port field doesnt point to a shoutcast stream? We cannot monitor your services without one! We need a stream that is up all the time to monitor correctly.

Hi James,
My fault, I resubmitted it. Been staring at code all day and the old eyes aren't what they used to be. Could very well have been my browser, this pc is way overworked and it gets quirky with IE sometimes.

Thanks for submitting! Also, would you like comments enabled on your listing?

On another note, I think this is a very excellent idea. I'm aware RTB does this but a single source never sits well with me. Whether the review be good or bad I believe multiple reviews and information are a good thing.

Their reviews are just checkboxes. They all start with "this host has a control panel". Plus we want to add more features :)

I've found RTB to be pretty inaccurate, saying hosts have had downtime that they didn't have, so I am glad to see that you guys are making your own service.

RTB is very reliable, and the stream hosts that show downtime on there don't actually want to admit it.

RTB monitors only one server...when a company may have 8 or 9. If that one goes down, then the whole company's reliability goes down. That's why the host should actually use a server not hooked up to cognet (or other cheap bandwidth) when determining reliability.

I've seen it report downtime that never happened. Not saying the whole thing is inaccurate, but I certainly trust paid monitoring services such as Hyperspin over RTB.

Also, about the Cogent thing, Cogent really isn't that bad. FDC gave them a bad name. But I do agree, single homing something on pure Cogent is a complete mistake.

Don't you use Alphared? They're using mostly all Cogent in their outbound mix ;)

We are using stream alerts for our monitoring. They are awesome and their service suits what we wanted exactly. We are still adding features for it like uptime and whatnot :)

I do not have the AR server anymore as AR went under. I never said you shouldn't use Cognet yourself. I simply said that you shouldn't put a server that you want to show 100% uptime on the cognet network. I still use plenty of servers on cognet to this day..but they aren't being monitored by RTB or other services. I know they can go down more than other providers, but it is still pretty reliable for the price. It's certainly not 100% though ;-)

Every website is subject to downtime.

I am just saying...RTB has been doing this for years now and out of all of the "stream reviews" companies may try and promote, RTB is the most trusted to me. I know that the guy that owns the site has strict guidelines for getting and staying in the list of providers...and it is who I have always trusted because of the length of time the site has been around (since 2002) and the results I have had with it. When FDC came crashing, that site was a Godsend to help me find an actual reputable streamhost because you could see in real time what hosts were good and which ones weren't.

I have a question concerning the monitoring service you are using. Although my "station" was down so I could do some much needed upgrades to the pc the stream server was not down. The reporting service appears to be reflecting my server to have been down on the reviews page. Do I need to set up a dummy server with a repeating mp3 on autodj to keep an accurate account of the server uptime?

James
11-25-2008, 04:14 AM
yes :) All or most of the test stations are just autodj.

We have added total uptime and a few other features.. have a look!
