When I was in high school in a small town, we had a radio club and would broadcast during the day's lunch periods. It was pretty basic. We'd just bring albums from home and play music.

I bet there are more interesting entry level stories here. How did others start?

It all started with the Wild Planet "Radio DJ" toy.

30ft on 1610AM, good enough for me.

I dont know why they ever stopped making those toys, they were just fantastic, the parents were happy listeneing to their favourite tracks on radio while we had fun talking in between them. They should start manufacturing them again with cd or SD card, kids are up with technology, but not enough to huild one from a DIY kit..

Good ol' times :p

My first ever recording broadcast was done as a school project. Thankfully it was recorded so I had room for mistakes. We had to do interviews based on a war time book we had read.

I was totall shocked to get top marks for the project and was even more amazed at how well it went down with my peers. I think that is the one moment that sparked off my interest in radio.

A guy who used to operate the lighting board for a band I was in had some broadcasting equipment, and he did some little shows for his apartment building.

I'm not sure exactly what equipment it would have been back then, but I'm sure it was illegal...

I was a regular caller (on purpose) on a late night show on "Laser Hot HB107" in Hampton Bays, NY. They convinced me to get into radio early on!
