    Streaming legally...

    Hello,

We want to start an online radio station that will have several djs/10-20 listeners to start with - how to go about it legally? We would have autodj play when there are no DJs streaming live, so music would be playing 24/7/265. But if it was cheaper to not have autodj playing we would choose that option as we would be on a very tight budget, well at least to start with anyway. We have no problem with technical side of things, we could go about it right now, but we just want everything legal so we can promote the station properly, without worrying about getting into any trouble.

PS I am from the West Midlands, UK.

I also sent the same questions to ppluk.com and prsformusic.com yesterday but have not heard anything back from them yet.

You have done the right thing as they are the only bodies you need to contact in the UK, you will hear from them soon I should think.

What are you doing with the other hundred days in the year? Its a pain to get licenced in the UK as you need PRS and PPL licencing and the minimum package they do is for up to 118000 streams.... Do they really expect a station to start off with those sort of figures?
