Internet Radio Stations asking for DJs sometimes make me laugh?

It appears to me that nearly every single internet radio station struggles to attract DJs/Presenters judging by the posts on other forums and yet when prospective DJs/Presenters reply to the thread they are directed to "apply online" and sent of to a webpage or asked to send a CV to a given email address as though the station owner is doing the DJ/Presenter some sort of favour by condescending to allow the DJ to broadcast on their hallowed radio station!

Well lets be totally frank here, their station cant be that good otherwise they would not be posting every week asking for DJs would they?

Also when prospective DJs do reply to a thread they are very rarely responded to by some of the people running these stations!

If you are running a radio station and want to fill up your schedule and a DJ expresses an interest in broadcasting on your station then basically you should do all the chasing, after all you are not offering any payment for their services but rather they are offering their services on a voluntary basis to help you with the promotion of your station and to enable you to attract more listeners to your station.

I get the impression that when some people start up an internet radio station they get a bit above themselves and think they are something better than they are, well when you start paying DJs lots of money then I would personally allow you that stance, but when you are asking for volunteers you need to be humble and thank them for their interest and their help with your station. Please don't forget that most DJs will also bring along their own listeners with them who will tune into your station.

Running a radio station can be very time consuming with chasing after DJs and programming in pre recorded shows, setting up radio imaging and other stuff, it can also get quite expensive the more you get into it.

Where some are concerned it would be better to DJ on someone else's station rather than set up another radio station that will be short of DJs and keep posting asking for Presenters?

Well I have had my moan, what do you think......lol

When I first started I had to hunt for the show hosts myself. I did this by looking at the other internet stations who played the same style of music that I wanted. I then emailed the hosts of the shows I liked asking if I could run their shows as well, This way I built up my schedule. Over time it changed to the other way with new hosts emailing me to air their shows. I did it this way as I didnt want my station the be just a jukebox, but to sound live with people hosting the shows, because Im not just an internet station, but all so on-air on the FM band in my town. One thing I feel that is important is to thank the shows hosts to show that you appreciate their work.

That is exactly what I have had to do as well, I have thanked every single host for their help with our station and it was me that did all the chasing, with your help where a couple were concerned. I cant believe the attitude of some station owners when a prospective host replies to their thread begging for DJs , you would think they would be appreciative but instead many take a high and almighty attitude and direct the prospective host to an application form!

I had a similar problem over 10 years ago when i started out on the inernet. The station i was doing a few shows for was impossible to work for you couldn't do right for doing wrong. Nothing was ever good enough for the station owner and program controller.

We we're then all summoned to a meeting in the chatroom and told we were all fired. Still don't know why or what the problem was, That's when i tried setting my own station up and it was difficult trying to get people to agree to let me use their show/mixes.

Why some people think they're the be all and end all when it comes to the world of DJ work i will never know .....

When I'm ready to start doing shows again (Having some Mental Health problems at the moment) you will all be free to use them! I do DJ work for the love of music.

That's a kind offer to the Internet Radio Community Gary. Take care of your health FIRST and foremost my friend and all the rest will follow in due course. Internet Radio at times can be just like a love - hate relationship. One minute you are on cloud 9 while the next the walls are caving in all around. It's all perspective.

I am the same as you mate, I love music and ended up doing radio shows by default really, I have spent 30 years as a mobile DJ on and off and then had this wacky idea to set up a radio station for London's Taxi drivers (of which I am one) so ended up doing radio shows which I really enjoy.

Once I have set our station up properly I too will be making some generic radio shows and everyone will be able to use mine free of charge as well with no restrictions.

Before I got into Internet radio i was a Pub & Working Mens club DJ/Compare been at it 26 years started off at a youth club in 1987.

Used to get a great buzz out of doing radio shows but this past year or so I've just fell outta love with it all again. I will be back doing them again when i feel up to it.

Another thing I'm finding rather annoying with most internet radio stations is when they Say "Experienced DJ's wanted ..... Sam Broadcaster only" Seriously?? They're limiting the amount of talent they could bring to their stations by doing that.

I certainly wouldn't want to work for a station that limits itself to just one piece of software!

The other funny thing I have noticed with some internet radio stations advertising for DJs is they insist you have a condenser microphone and will not allow you to DJ on their station if you do not have one, funny how some of the biggest commercial radio stations actually use dynamic microphones rather than condenser mice.

I am sure that most of these stations insisting on condenser mics dont even know the difference between the two!

Yet again this just shows how some people think they can run a station when they so obviously cannot. I invested in a Decent Dynamic microphone for 30 and you can't really tell. It sounds perfect.

At the end of the day it's their loss if they are going to be picky over what Mic you use.
