    Thumbs up

I was just wondering why anyone would start a service, and faithfully advertise a 999 listener limit on 128kbps @ $5.00/Mo, with a 500GB transfer limit, and NOT advertise the overage rate....Wile I think it's a nice idea, this is just not what people need. There are already too many untruthful hosts out there.

Are you sure you want to put Radio Boss' reputation on the line like that?

There were a few recent advertisers who advertised the same and I signed up for their trial and ran thru the Bandwidth just like that. They suspended my account, until I upgraded or the next month came along. What did I do when I read suspension the email? DELETED IT! Not a good way to start business.

What you should do , is truthfully advertise the listener limit that can actually support 500, 1000, 2000, 4000, 8000GB's of data monthly, with its respective pricing. Which by the calculator on your site, 500GB would net me a grand total of 12 listeners a month! And if your target is a new broadcaster, than the listener limits would fit.
If you are concerned that poeple won't be able to afford the real price of the service, then just maybe they don't need to be broadcasting in the 1st place.

Deceiving customers will always result in a negative review/impact for your brand. There's a fool/sucker born every minute and sure, you'll get hits on the 'sale', but you should be concerned with the long term reputation and where it could go.

Don't we as customers deserve that?

Don't think i'm coming down on you, because I do like your software, but I'm just tierd of these 'companies' building their base off of lies, and you should especially feel the same way, because you are a 'developer' of a popular Radio Automation software.

It's also up to the idiots who call themselves customers to do the math and figure it out. But like I said, there is a fool born every minuute and I hear it every day in Sales! It's what drives revenue.

So, since you're going to go with this model, what is your overage rate?

@Urban - You are spot on with your calculations .. to put it in another way ... If you had 999 concurrent listeners at 500 Gigs bandwidth per month, they could only listen for 8 hours before they ran out of bandwidth. Not even one day, WOW.

The most amazing post I have seen here at BCW is the host who advertised 999,999 concurrent listeners at 5 pounds a month. If you believe that, I have a nice bridge for sale.

If Stream Hosts wouldn't try to trick potential new customers then the Hosts would have a better reputation in the business. So, if RADIOBOSS.FM advertised that you get 999 concurrent listeners, but they can only listen for 8 hours a month, how many sales would they make. Not many.

Although we lose a lot of listeners to Make A Voice, Voscast, Listen2MyRadio, they always seem to come back. Why? Because you get what you pay for. Unfortunately, when streaming is packaged to confuse the broadcaster, it hurts everyone's ruputation.

I will say I am impressed with the Radioboss independent DSP. Very nicely designed. Was checking it out tonight. Debating buying it.

    @Urban
There are no overage rates. When a user exceeds his bandwidth limit, his account will be suspended. We won't charge for additional traffic. If a user pays $10/mo - it will be that $10, not a penny more. It's explicitly stated on the web site: no hidden costs and it's true (*).

Plans are straight forward, all limits are mentioned, and we don't advertise nonsense like "unlimited listeners" "unlimited bandwidth" or anything like this. Of course those who advertise "unlimited" do have a fine-print hidden somewhere saying how limited is unlimited

So I don't understand how this hosting service may harm my business reputation - all plans are clear and honest.

By the way, you chose "average listen time" to 24 hours - that's not real. No one tunes in for 24 hours. According to my stats(**), "average listener" listens for about 2 hours a day. So the real calculation: 128kbps, 300 listeners, 2 hours average listen time: 989 GB/month. A $10 plan is perfect for this situation

Also, the bitrate you see in plans is the "Maximum bitrate". You don't have to broadcast @128k on a $5 plan - any bitrate under or equal to 128k is accepted. Actually everyone who already subscribed for the $5 plan broadcast at 48 or 64 kbps.

(*) I think there should be a page added "what happens when I exceed my bandwidth limit" - thanks for bringing up this problem.
(**) before starting this hosting business I've ran a free shoutcast hosting for about 2 years to gather some stats.

If you really have 999 concurrent listeners all the time you shouldn't be buying a $5 plan, right? A dedicated server is the right choice here.

Combined with the bandwidth limit, the 999 limit is real. Those who advertise "999,999" listeners with no bandwidth limit are liars, no doubt. But that's not our case.

Can you say where I'm trying to trick my [potential] customers? All plans and limits are listed on one page with no fine-print or links to "terms".

Are you saying that radioboss.fm services are bad?

I personally don't like plans with funny limits like 20 listeners. It doesn't allow station to grow easily. With this limit, station owner always afraid that new listeners won't be able to tune in. I know stations who have about 10 concurrent listeners (average) during the day but with peaks to 50 listeners from time to time. In this case a 20 listener plan is not that good as the 999 plan, isn't it?

OK I thought your "you get what you pay", "it hurts everyone's ruputation" and "If Stream Hosts wouldn't try to trick potential new customers" were about RADIOBOSS.FM...

Web site has been updated - now it says explicitly that there are no overage charges. Hope that helps
