Radio stations Website design what you think?

    Hi

I try to enter to many sites of radio stations from around the world.
And forgive me. Butall the sites of radio stations are ugly ! Including my radio site.
The design of most web sites looked like stuck in the '90s.

Maybe the thought of all of us. The content we produce is the most important.
Because people listen to the radio. They did not observe on our site...

You also think like me? What can you do?

I will agree with that one there are some truly awful station websites out there....

Your site isn't that bad, It's functional and not as cluttered as some websites I see.

I agree with you alot of stations are good but i think if there website looked decent it would get peoples attention and think this looks a good radio to tune in.

As for your website its good, Websites can be very useful as listeners will have to goto the website to listen so a good design will help imo. Maybe make a few jingles to advertise new content on the website, that could help.

i agree... most radio websites i've seen are horrendous in my opinion.

I have seen a few gems, but really most of them are pretty bad. I know the focus is on audio content, but visual presentation is super important as well---especially with a website. It's not very expensive to create a decent looking website, without covering it with crazy (and shady) banner ads and colors.

Simplicity, ease of use, then features. Usually in that order for your site visitors. Don't overwhelm them with everything at once. Create something that gives them the basic necessities first. Your branding. A way to tune in immediately without having to look for a link or button buried somewhere on the page. A hint at what's available if they dig deeper. A clean appearance. No rotating, garish banners and flashing gifs. Scrolling notices and text are out. Anything that detracts or pulls the look away from what's important on the page. And a FAST LOADING site. It's well proven that if a website takes too long to load, folks get frustrated or head elsewhere. The same goes for finding what they want. Decide what your niche is, who your audience is, what they like. The younger the crowd, the easier it is to get away with those "garish and gaudy" sites. The older surfer wants something easy on the eyes and senses. Oh,. and finally, NO AUTOLOADING MUSIC. When a site visitor clicks on a link to your site and is immediately getting blasted with music even before the site finishes loading, and the user is looking for the player and volume control to turn it down or off, you've lost them already.

Good web site can help in getting additional listeners.

I agree that lots of radio station web sites are really ugly and/or cluttered with ads and widgets. I think the reason why it's like this: most Internet radios are hobby projects. People don't put much effort into building a good web site.

    Jim,

Looked over your site. A few things I'd do:

    Site responsiveness on mobile devices:

This is VERY important these days, as fully half of all web surfers use some kind of mobile device at least occasionally. You site should display properly on all of them. Go to www.responsinator.com and type in your site URL in the space provided to see how YOUR site looks on mobile devices. Then type in MY website url (www.radiobijoux.com) to see the big difference.

    Font Colors:

If you are going with a busy background image, I'd go with bright light colors so that they remain visible as you scroll over different background colors. White, Yellow, something that will contrast and be easy to see on ALL size screens.

    Banner Image:

Rather than a black background, go with something closer to the deep blue hues you have on your background graphic.

Or even better, use a black outline around the fonts and images and make the black area transparent so your background shows through behind it. Or simply experiment with the transparency of the black area.

    Shows page:

You've used an iframe for your show schedule that is small and requires scrolling back and forth as well as up and down to see it. Enlarge it at least to full width or height, preferably both, so your user will be able to see at a glance all of your shows.

    Other pages:

Same issue with fonts. More contrast for better visibility.

Otherwise (in my opinion), you've stuck with a good simple plan that is easy to navigate without too much distracting clutter.

Look at my site if you get a chance... http://www.radiobijoux.com

The big box is not centered (FireFox), also Twitter/Faceboo/G+ icons at the bottom are not centered as well. Apart from this, the web site looks OK.
