Do you use SMS or email?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys.. well im heading into a radio station.. Nova 100 (http://www.nova100.com.au) this year to help them out. Its a show called nova nites. They use skype and phone and an online chat room. They get over 30 users every day and the show is just the busiest! Its too popular!

So.. does anyone find this way effective for your station? Its unusual having a commerial station using skype and a chat room!

We use email for our request line, with a dedicated Gmail account that all our DJs have access to. We also have a online chat room, and most of our DJs advertise their Yahoo IM as well.

Every little bit helps!

Its great seeing an interactive show. :)

I think this method is mainly used for internet stations :)

I use both sms and e-mail ...I have a 5 digit number for sms they just type mix then there message ..and request form on the site 2 :)

I looked into getting a short code, and this is what I found:

To do any SMS messaging in the US, you must send from a short code leased from the Common Short Code Administration (CSCA). The CSCA charges $500 per month to lease a Random short code and $1,000 per month to lease a Vanity code (5 or 6 digit short code that you specifically select). These fees do not establish connectivity, but only give you ownership of a unique, or “dedicated” short code number.

Just a tad bit ridiculous for an internet show to spend.. and way too much to ask the network to spend for all the shows.

Is there any alternative that anyone knows to this kind of ridiculous fee for this??

also, I know radio stations around here in NY use something they call "instant feedback" where they have a form setup on the website, you submit it, and they get all the forms on their end in a nice little program that lists all the information on the form.

I was wondering if anyone knows what they use for it. I have an IM widget setup on the show website, which works, but I was just curious as to what the big boys use for their "instant feedback" systems
