NickolasM.
Im not sure about you but I have noticed when I go to party's wedding's and stuff for my school we all have DJ's right? Well anyways. It seams to me all they bring now is a Ipod some speakers and a microphone. Other times they just bring a laptop and do the same thing. What happen to the good DJ's? The ones who bring all the CD's in with them. Whats DJ-ing going to be like in 10 years from now?
AJH
computer generated intelligence. Just kidding, kind of.... I have noticed the change as well, but with technology that is going to happen. It will be interesting to see the trends.

RadioCIA
oh my i HATE it! its modern day DJ's, they arent really dj's! They cant use a turntable and they just use a computer :( All too true. Go to any of the big stations, ClearChannel, Cumulus, etc. and the so-called on-air talent is restricted to a preset playlist, must hit all commercials on the mark, and frequently has pre-scripted "chatter". They're not DJs, they're just button pushers. If you want to hear real DJs, you have to listen to small, independent stations. (Or some internet stations....most of those tend to be automated most of the time).
James
Its how its getting here in Australia, im in a regional part of aus and we have PROPER dj's that actually control what they are doing. Im also doing work exp at australias biggest station next year and they cant control their music, no requests can be put in live, only via the web 2 hours in advance. But i suppose its all coming like that and i have to admit radio stations are getting tough to handle if you want to compete! Most stations have a chatroom that dj's can chat to and they have to moderate that while they are on air, also they use skype, msn and yahoo while on air! Crazy! Way too much for them to be doing on air. They can use all them b.c its a playlist set up. And good for you james helping that station. That is ad you cannot control what you want to do. aaronsnet
You can still mix using a computer vs. lugging around 4 boxes of CDs or records. What's really got me is that there are no live DJ's in internet radio anymore. Upload a few files and liners, press play, and you've got an online radio station. It's amazing! It's gotten as bad and lazy as terrestrial radio.

MADcHATTER
Well we still rely on live DJ's exclusively. Sometimes (very rarely) will we do a "canned" show. MAD

pnwsolutions
well, technically they can* use a turntable on their computer. Or they can use SAM as the mixer. it works just as well. In 10 yrs, it will all be on the net!
