Is AutoDJ necessary when you look for a host?

Autodj is pretty much standard nowdays but when you look for a host, do you think its a necessary product to have? Most stations have 3-4 dj's and when theres no dj online, they pop on autodj..

Do you?

My opinion is yes. Some people who run their station as a hobby so are the only DJ so to keep it online 24 hours use Auto DJ, that's got to be better than having random live broadcasts and off air the rest of the time.

My thinking is, with power outages due to storms, or whatever, it would be nice to have something in place to cover me. I had a major outage here last winter, and I'm lucky to have been down for only 9 hours. Some areas around here were without power for days. It is good for a host to offer this service, and I think it is a wise idea to look for some kind of redundancy to keep a stream running.

On another note, I'm testing a new Auto DJ from KWDServices. Other than my own FTP problems, I'm finding it quite nice, with a chunk of features not found on a lot of Auto DJ setups. You can test their demo at http://adj1.kwdservices.com/index.php. The username is demo and the password is demo123. It is pretty inexpensive as well.

I have not seen Auto DJ like that before, looks interesting. Perhaps you could promote this in the promotion section with more details and pricing so people can see it without having to contact you first?

Yup, we're working on automated setup too and 30 day trials.

At the moment we are not selling it to any new stations, but our expected launch date is December 1st so we'll also have LOADS of free goodies for the holiday season :D

This does look great and I have come across the demo before. I agree with Threeten radio, would be great to see pricing/plans instead of having to go back and forth between emails. I know I would be interested in something like this as I am looking to switch my auto dj provider.

I appreciate the comments. We're working on it very hard and I promise you'll be happy when we release everything around December 1st :)

Thanks HOT407 .. glad you like our Auto DJ.

We have a brand new product.

If you have broadcast from your home PC most of the time and for whatever reason, you go down (ISP problem, PC problem, etc.), our automated system will sense that and switch over to Auto DJ within a minute or two.

So, you don't have to worry about being off the air for some unexpected reason.

We host many iTunes stations and they can not afford to have 'dead air'.

PM me for details.

i'm new to the autodj thingy. how does it work? is it just some gui interface and some storage space and actually have to have pay for another service to stream?

say using mixstreams prices for example. 500MB is around $9. do i need to get streaming services or is that including the stream as well?

if it's another 50 slot @ 128k = $47, that would be 47+9= $56 smackeroos a month!!!!

wow, how do you justify paying $50+ per month? i mean isn't there like some sort of autodj plans where you have your server/pc running at home streaming to your stream service and in an event of an emergency, a service provider offering autodj service would kick on in the event a power outage or internet connectivity issue would to occur?

not trying to downplay the worth of service but i don't really see the need to see spending $50 at the minimum per month for something that i'm going to use 30-60 out of the month.

isn't there like some autodj plans that have like a plan based on usage? its nice to have a station running 24/7, just trying to minimize cost thats all.

I know of plenty of places that will do that without requiring you to buy slots. I know our AutoDJ system has settings for auto recovery that will monitor streams anywhere and if it senses that the connection from the DJ has been dropped, it will start streaming to the server no matter where it is. The only issue that I have seen, and that I don't know of anywhere that has a better solution, is that when you are ready to stream live again from your home computer you will either have to go and stop the automation or kick it off the shoutcast server. After it has been kicked/stopped you then connect at the same time. :)
