I always preferred mAirlist when it was free. Now I use radio DJ, far more professional sounding and stable than SAM. SAM always strikes me as a playout for amateurs. http://www.immenseradio.com - Non Stop Dance http://www.immenselive.com - Just Great Music and the home of two top 10 @ 10's a day! http://www.stationguru.com - The ultimate radio resource website

the_fox
At the moment i'm spending about $80 AUD including royalties with a streaming service, but am wondering if there is a much cheaper option out there that also has the functionality of a smart phone application. My setup at home is a console, three mics, my mac mini which runs SAM broadcaster and holds all my music. Is there a more cost-effective solution? When people start talking about their own dedicated servers etc it starts to confuse me, I just pay and it all works. Any ideas? Image Producer, Australia | Like my work? BWorld
Sometimes it is more cost effective if you separate royalties and streaming. Check out StreamLicensing and see if it is a viable option for you when combining it with someone's streaming company. There are tons of qualified streaming providers around here. ██ Stream101 | Affordable Media Solutions ██ Shared cPanel? the_fox
Hmm that doesn't seem too bad actually. Seems pretty cool... definitely a saving in a way! So what's the difference between a straight shoutcast package and a package such as wavestreaming? Image Producer, Australia | Like my work? BWorld
Wavestreaming is a company. They actually sell just Shoutcast, but their control panel has different features (as do most hosts). If you are seeing just a straight shoutcast package (not sure which company you are looking at), you may just get the server with no control. I'd look for a host with a control panel. We use a type of panel that is very customized called Centova. It allows AutoDJ (broadcast directly from our servers), reporting, etc. Shoutcaststreaming.us also uses Centova and is a very good host too! ██ Stream101 | Affordable Media Solutions ██ Shared cPanel? jolo22
I used fastcast4u for my shoutcast and woohoo networks for my icecast and serverroom.us for my WMS to broadcast my radio station. PS: Also I have a shoutcast server hosted on myradiostream.com as a relayed/transcoded server. I wonder if they have app availability. I've got a smartphone app but don't really want to lose it. SAM only works on Windows. How are you using SAM on a Mac Mini? Urban Hitz Radio
UrbanHitzRadio has been a proud user of: MyRadioStream (formerly freestreamhosting), since July 2012. I'm not ashamed to say it. And let me tell you, it's been VERY, VERY stable, despite the fact that it's on a lower tier of bandwidth. I have since dropped my premium subscription with another provider on the list that I posted, in favor of my new subscription. I still have plenty of backup choices from the list, should anything go wary. There realistically is no quality difference between this service and a service that charges $1.25-3.00 a slot . And I am streaming at 160 kbps. Now I don't use the "FREE" service, I use the "premium" service (allows your stream to have direct tune-ins and to be listed on shoutcast), which doesn't cost that much a month. Now many people will argue that you get what you pay for. But this isn't one of those horrid low cost services. It's run by the good man over @ MixStream. And I was a long time user of MixStream a few years back. Ticket Support is decent. I've only had 2 hiccups over the past 10 months, and it wasn't that serious. So, when you are price shopping for a provider, keep these guys in mind. You won't be disappointed. Edited May 9, 2013 by Urban Hitz Radio Just Because I Can! -- JE .::.(())::. Many people argue that "low cost" severs generally are not that great. That is completely FALSE with these servers. My stream has never gone down, support is always fast with answering, and it is very simple and easy to use. I have 1,000 slots for a very low price. It is definitely a bang for your buck kind of deal. I definitely prefer MyRadioStream over any other stream provider.

voodoohippie
Update: I actually switched to http://myradiostream.com and immediately upgraded from FREE to Pro and I too have the 1,000 listener slots @ 128K. Right now they use their own control panel but there was some talk about upgrades. Since I use LiveWebDJ anyway for my back up AutoDJ it didn't matter to me about rather it had Centovacast or not but I do like Centovacast. My station has been Rock solid and the price is the lowest I've ever seen. FYI iimho UK electronics has always been better than what you get in the USA so I took a chance on it. I've been an Audiophile for many years and when I had the money to burn I'd buy German Audio equipment because of the difference in sound quality. Yes I'd pay 7K for a stereo but it was damn well worth every penny as compared with the crap electronics that comes into the USA so with that in mind when you pay for a cheap server in the UK it is going to be worth the same as an expensive server in the USA. The trick is rather or not your ISP has a good link to the UK. Some have bad hops along the way and some don't. Time Warner for an example in Elizabeth City, NC is horrible but when I had US Cellular's unlimited data plan I had no problems with streaming to any UK server. CenturyLink streams to the UK well but Not Time Warner. Urban Hitz Radio
I've always received GREAT broadband service from the UK. I have a dedicated in the USA, and I've had more issues with my stream not being able to withstand the upload and constant drops, that have nothing to do with my stream provider. When I had a UK dedi, I had NOT 1 issue. Edited July 5, 2013 by Urban Hitz Radio -- JE .::.(())::. Urban Hitz Radio™ USA .::.(())::. The People' Choice for Hip-Hop & R&B!
