Broadcasting gear getting cheaper?

James

I personally think thanks to behringer and companies like that, pretty much anyone can broadcast with a full setup. A mixer for $50, mic for $40, headphones for $5 and there you have a half decent studio!

But on the other side, mixers are getting bigger and better and more expensive. Your thoughts? :biggrinthumb:

My broadcast mixer is a Behringer MX1604A.

It has a great sound, VERY controllable, has 4 mono ins, 4 stereo ins, pre fade listen and Phantom power as well as 3 band eq, 2 aux sends/returns and as sub mixer just in case. I have used mine foir the last 4 years and it has never missed a beat. HIGHLY recommended. :biggrinthumb:

Tonight I traded a big, heavy bass amp for a mixer.

My first Behringer product! I got the better end of the deal.

Picked up the Eurotrack UB2442FX-PRO 16 channel mixer.

Nice, easy to use console. Lots of features.

Thing's got 24 inputs but I only need a few, otherwise I'd want to hang on to it.

Still, I'll play around with it for a little while first before I dismiss it.

Anyone else familiar with Tascam 3200...? Its sitting in a nice Argosy table. Here's the real photo from my office:

That is a very impressive setup.

I'm not currently broadcasting but my "latest" mixer is contained in the Yamaha MD8 MiniDisc recorder. I also have an old six channel Teac mixer with four outs.

Am I correct in assuming that much of the cheaper broadcasting gear is made in China?

WOW lol.

Thats very nice!

Thank you, I sold my 3-series for it (kept the 5'er)

Ricardo, yes typically, (during this economy) asian products will become cheaper, they are starting to suffer just as we are financially, (hence our gas prices going down)

That is a very robust mixer our local community center has one and it is the best mixer I have used.

Behringer Xenyx 1832FX ... beware, after about a year this thing is crapping out on me. My left main out has decided to take a vacation. I'm hearing I'm not the only person this has happened to. I'm currently looking for a new board. I'm really interested in the Audioarts Air 1 console, cause man is that thing sexy! hah but I just don't have anywhere near the fundage to put together to get hat puppy, so I'm looking at an Alesis Studio 24. For right now, that'll do the job, and it fits my next to nothing budget.

I also use Behringer line effects as well. I have a MDX2200, MDX2600 and a VX2000 Vocal Strip. They've been great to me. I also have a headphone dist amp, forgot the model of it, but it's the 4 channel box one. I think I spent 40 bucks on it, works out great. The Behringer headphones arent so comfortable, and they don't sound all that great either, but for 10 bucks a pair, I couldnt help but get a couple pairs.

Well, I shopped out another Behringer bargain.

This time it was the MicroMon MA400 "ultra-compact Monitor Headphone Amplifier" The thing is adorably small, and certainly a nifty device. Paid ~$25 USD including shipping. It had different features than their HA400 headphone amp.

It works wonderfully on all my mics except the one I needed it for (of course)! The audio Gods are giggling at me.

Here's more proof that broadcasting gear is coming down in price.

http://www.bswusa.com/proditem.asp?item=ARC-8

A small/medium market pro broadcast console, including automation software (including a production, scheduling and traffic interfaces) for $799 introductory price. It's literally most of a small station in a box.

Now, I know I've been obsessed with a couple of different budget broadcast consoles, but this one takes the cake.

So, I can't end this post without saying (even though it goes without saying) DO WANT.

I do believe gear is getting much cheaper, maybe because home studios are becoming much more common? You would think they would try to take advantage by raising prices, but no, and I like it XD
