Have you ever won anything on radio?

On FM radio? Sure. When I worked from midnight to 8am, (in another life) and the rest of the world was sleeping, I'd call stations up all the time.

I called in with the correct answer to a movie trivia question after seven wrong callers and won free movie tickets.

I knew my knowledge of character actors would come in handy one day!

I'd get stuff from the local college station, just for being "the next caller" like band posters, CD's (and cassettes, way back when).

Where do I start?

Movie Passes, CDs, Gift Certificates, a Number of Concert tickets (a pair of which the station wouldn't give me, crazy "60 Day" rule)

The funny part is I never seem to be able to win in my own city. I stupidly phone on vacation, and always land on "Caller 9" or whatever.

Won $107.50 on WGCI in CHicago (top-rated station) and the Jim Carrey movie "Ace Ventura-Pet Detective" just for being the 4th caller with the correct trivia question, on the afternoon drive.

Other than that, it was free movie passes, gift certificates, restaraunt dining coupons, and little trinkets.

Lots of good stuff!

I have won a freshly baked box of donuts on a radio station in lower mainland BC, which I happened to call when they were seeking caller number 9. I never heard of the station(I have dialed the wrong number to a friend), and was put on the air(I was 13 and it was a morning show)...It was embarrassing, and I went along with it which was even more embarrassing because they asked what my favorite station was on air, and I said MY local stations call letters...The guy was mad at me after we got off air and asked for my address and he was even more mad, and said expect old moldy donuts at the address I gave and hung up...

Never did recieve these though :schmoll:

Geez,

It must have been 1985. I didn't win, but our local station 106.1 WBLI on Long Island went through the local phone book and just picked a number to call.

Our phone rang and my mom answered. "Hi This is WBLI, if you can tell us who the new lead singer of Van Halen is, we'll give you a brand new Stereo System!" (I'm paraphrasing it was over 23 years ago)

My mom goes "Suuuure this is WBLI, uh huh, suuuure"

"No ma'am, this really is 106.1 WBLI, can you name the new lead singer of Van Halen?"

My mom goes "The new lead singer of Van Halen?" and I'm in the Kitchen screaming "SAMMY HAGAR!!! SAMMY HAGAR!" and my mother goes "Nope, sorry Mr WBLI, I can't" and hangs up.

I was LIVID... ran into the living room and turned on WBLI and the DJ goes "Well, I tried to give away a stereo system but the people we called refused to believe we were WBLI....on to the next phone book entry"

I think she owes me a stereo system to this day.

I won concert tickets to see Aerosmith by answering a question about them (and of course being the first to call with the correct answer).

I also won Dinner at a fancy restaurant by being the 66th caller once.

Both of these were all on WKQQ.

Two years ago, the day before Christmas Eve, I was walking in a grocery store parking lot and a tricked out radio van pulled up. A guy with a microphone came over to me and said something like, "You look festive today in your red coat, What's your favorite radio station?"

I answered that it was, of course, WKQQ home of rock and roll.

They gave me a coupon for $100 of groceries at that store. It turns out they were going from store to store and giving out these coupons.

So the short answer is yes. And it was fun, and, what can I say . . . I'll always remember.

Do you remember the Aerosmith Question? I'd like to see if I can answer it... I'm the biggest Aerosmith Fan

Here's an interesting question, whihc I'm not sure belongs in this thread so James, if you think it should be moved feel free..

Are there any services that provide prizes to internet stations? I've come across services like this for FM, but haven't seen anything geared towards internet radio.

As far as whatever we give away, it's usually merch from bands that we have in.. tshirts, cds, stickers, etc. They bring in a bunch of stuff, and we either try to give it away while their in, or just keep it around to give away other times.

But having a myriad of stuff to give away (which means, for the station that we could give other shows stuff as well) would be excellent, and probably promote a lot more interaction from people who just listen.

That's a good question, I've been ASKING.

Cyber-FM is now a "Prize" at "Hampton Idol" on Feb 27th. Winner gets to record their song at "PMA Recording Studios" and air-play on "Cyber-FM."

I'm flattered and rushed at the same time!

I won an HD radio once on a big Rock FM station here...It was when HD was first started around here and sold it on ebay for $400. That paid for my microphones ;)
