James
As the title suggests, do you run a small playlist of songs or do you have a more expended playlist? Small playlists are good for stations that play new music alot in my opinion! :Z: Studiio - All-In-One Radio Communication Platform SMS | Phone Calls | Social Media | Content
Blazin 97
Agreed small playlists are good for stations that play new music, mine has a large playlist but only about half the songs are in rotation, that way the new songs play at least once an hour
WayneOwens
We run a fairly large playlist of about 1000 tracks, it still unbelieveably gives us a lot new music first then some old, and back to the new....usually though all the new music is played back to back in the wee hours of the morning....but that's how our scheduler is, so i dont change it
THREETEN RADIO
Covering 70s, 80s and 90s pop means a large playlist. Even the 80s only stream has 500+ tracks.
GKIye
Well I'm an addict to SAM Broadcaster :-) so the format is sheduled by the clockwheel (see config) that clockwheel loads the songcategory when it has to be aired In general I'm working at my project with 2 main directories first of all there are the visible playlists who can be seen at the tab On Demand Request at the website .. this contains about 5000 tracks and they are Weekly updated with new tracks secondly I use some invisible aka hidden playlist directories into SAM who shedule random songs in between the clockwheel format (these has about 1000+ tracks) As people may know listeners at my project can make realtime requests .. by using the invisible playlists the general format is fixed this way into my way .. otherwise it can happen that to many times the same music is played .. so I make some adjustements to still achieve the general type of format Visit and listen @ BW ! wildun
I keep about 2000 tracks in Sam. I have about 5000 total. I have a pal script set up that pulls from the other 3000 tracks randomly. A lot of the hidden tracks are indie artists.

kwdservices
On our Jazz station we have a little over 3,000 tracks all in rotation, and on the Urban station we have around 2,000 tracks total, but very few are in rotation because we have to play mostly all new music to keep the listeners happy. nitnitr
Having a contemporary Christian station, the selection is a little more limited, but we have 1800 songs in rotation, with the scheduler making sure there are plenty of the new releases in the mix. jamesleemccoy1988
I'm no radio station owner, but as a broadcaster that's been into the radio biz for almost 3 years I will say it is good in my opinion to have a larger playlist for a station pending on the type of genre the station is. For example if you was running a country station it would be alright to run a playlist of country songs that mixes it up with today's country music and throwing in some 80's and 90's country. I know a few local country stations that does that and a few people that works for those country stations that does it. That's just my opinion and I believe you can gain more listeners that way, You don't wanna play the sane song once every 1 or 2 hours you wanna be able to keep your listeners by mixing it up.
