New Linux Mini Laptops- Good for listening!

Recommended Posts

I decided to buy a maplin minibook from http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=225532&source=1

and have found it to be a valuable tool for Internet Radio station listening.

When you get one, they won't work straight away, you have to update the web browser, details are here:

There are loads of downloads available here:

and there are good sites relevant to these laptops here:

I am a complete novice when it comes to Linux.... the only thing I can't do is figure out how to install Wine, the Windows emulator, so that I can use my fav. programme Cool Edit Pro!

anyone know how to help me out?

Hope this info. is useful to you all- they are crackin' little machines (stable as a rock!), also badged under the Elonex name and various others, as you will see when delving further in to the links above.

Acer make one too I have been told, that may be even better, though a little costlier.

Hope this info. is of some help to you all, it is much more versatile than a "web radio"

Arf':voiceover:

If I have helped you with a Freebie- please be kind enough to add a link from your own site or blog to mine- thanks! http://arthurburton.net

Thank You!

Sorry, but it looks like that notebook is based on on the XBurst CPU,

which implements the MIPS instruction set. As such, you won't

be able to run x86 windows programs with wine.

You can check this by doing

uname -m

If it doesn't print out i686 or the like, you're probably not x86 compatible.
