James
When will the day come when internet station players sort of like the ipod but can play internet radio come into place? There is practicly a free wi-fi in every city and technology only gets smaller which means this could be possible. Your thoughts? Maybe we could get some prototypes for a player? tjoebgen
My guess is that the cell phone will take over all the functions of camera and media player, as well as your main communications device for text, email, and internet - rumor has it that you'll even use it to make phone calls (holds breath). With phones begining to WiFi now, people won't have to pay as much for nearly full-time net access. Our radio stations will be able to go with them where ever they go. Could be exciting times ahead. GKIye
Fact is that the technology already excists and is used into wireless radioreceivers who can be used at any place at home - also known as WiFi it is also already used to capture satelite radio's by using a laptop and it can be used into cars and trucks and Nokia has its own Nokia Internet Radio platform who provides already lots of internetradio stations to users of Nokia phone devices So the future is already Today .. however some systems do have still high costs .. its still streaming content to a device and thats equal to a traffic of data .. this means at a lot of countries still less datastream for a lot of money But its my idea that providers worldwide gonna have to join that interactive "data" railway to be sure of their part of the benefits ... When will the day come when internet station players sort of like the ipod but can play internet radio come into place Visit and listen @ BW ! CyberFM
Slacker is selling one now... although I believe it's failing. Did you know that as of 2009 all BMW's have WiFi builtin, and Dodge/Chrysler is doing it for 2010. Basically these screens are little Linux systems. Ford is using Windows CE in their cars, so if they add Wifi it's good to go! Long Island NY is betatesting free mac uuthenticated Wifi on the telephone poles. You could scream down the Long Island Expressway and be on one seemless mesh network. There's your internet radio "antenna" for the car
imin4fun
Can you do this with the iphone? You have 3G, wi-fi, and they should certinly have access to iTunes. This should create some competition if it can be done as blackberry is trying to catch up.
CyberFM
Cyber-FM is working on an iphone. in fact, you can try it at http://iphone.cyber-fm.com (very Beta-ish) we also are ALREADY up and running on Blackberries ver 4.2 and up. Try that over at http://wap.mftu.net Please don't take my post as "spam" but both are very solid representations of my station on the Iphone and Blackberry. GKIye
No sir .. I'm not a lucky son of a b**... but I'm an user of Nokia and on their website as customer you can subscribe to their newsletter after you submitted your phone serial number etc .. so I did I'm only using my skills to achieve what I want .. During the Summer 2008 they wrote an article about their new service and I used that link and made a profile to that service. After some days I received an invitation from Nokia to join the service and was asked to make an updated version of my profile details (http link etc etc) On July, 19 I received a confirmation that my project was accepted and available and live to all worldwide users of Nokia mobile phone devices Notice this link to subscribe : http://www.nokia.com/radio/irbroadcasters more details about applications can be found at : http://www.nokia.com/internetradio Important to know is ... at your station profile you have several ways to enter your stream details .. most common is - link with your streamsource IP (http://123.45.678:9098) listen.pls, m3u, asx, asf or other don't work Just for the record ... I made already a lot of profiles at sites who provides I-Radio's .. and this made it possible that my project is available since the start of most of the wireless internetradio services, eather by WiFi, mobile phone or at directories of compagnies who provides mediaplayers such as vTuner, Moodio, Reciva, Tangent, Nexus, Roku, and many others So it ain't nothing to see with "luck" .. but with being on the right spot on the right time You might be officially "One lucky son of a ..." Bizzacore
Torian Wireless is a company that makes this little thing called the InFusion. It fits the bill of exactly what you're talking about. Here are some specs of the unit: Internet Radio: Listen to any Internet radio broadcast from anywhere in the world (subject to wireless hotspot availability) Audio Recording: Record directly from the Internet, or via a timer recording function, and listen to the broadcast at a more convenient time/place. News/Sports/Weather Ticker Tape: View the latest information on the built-in banner streaming facility MP3 Player: Play MP3 music. The expandable memory slot allows as much memory as you need FM Receiver: Listen to local FM Rechargeable Batteries: Built-in lightweight rechargeable Li-Ion batteries Stylish & Compact Design: Revolutionary design and menu concept. Light-weight and compact (around the size of a credit card.) Here's the unit on Amazon.com: http://www.amazon.com/TORIAN-InFusion-Wireless-Portable-Internet/dp/B000M6XKF4 I see that the unit is unavailable from Amazon, and not available from the torian website. I'm pretty sure you can get on on eBay though if you were really interested in it. Apparently you USED TO be able to get them on eBay.. I just ran a quick search, and there are none to be found. I know I saw them on eBay a while ago. Not really sure what this company is doing right now.. since you can't get the InFusion anywhere, and to my knowledge that was their only unit. Well, isn't that interesting! hah
GKIye
Thats correct ... I wrote already earlier about this compagny and the Infusion wireless who has been launched during the end of 2006. Pre-sales of it were possible untill October 2006. At that time I had some contacts with their offices (enquiries@torianwireless.com), however without buying anything from their company. I'm almost sure Torian Wireless gonna send feedback about the product if the mailform at their website is used http://www.torianwireless.com contactform : http://www.torianwireless.com/component/option,com_contact/task,view/contact_id,1/Itemid,34/lang,english/ on this page at their website you can see some details .. and it looks that the product is "out of stock" link : http://store.torianwireless.com/infusion-p-29.html?currency=USD On the following link you can see a screenshot of the product : http://store.torianwireless.com/infusion-pi-29.html?image=1&osCsid=da6440f770b1a39ab5b373f73fe66243 or check the support pages : http://support.torianwireless.com/index.shtml Torian Wireless Anyway it looks that the compagny their website is "back" ... untill the end of the past Year 2008 their copyright notification was still 2007 .. it looks that this is updated at last to 2009 Visit and listen @ BW !
