I recon a good afternoon show has a great quiz, prizes should'nt be a problem maybe pop to your local Mc Donalds and ask for a free meal for 4 voucher, thats also promotion for them. Also afternoon shows should be full of useful information - traffic updates - school closures - local events.

All of this info is available on the internet free of charge these days.

Have fun guy's and let people know you are local to them.

Harry.

Hey James,

If you do stuff like prank calls, PLEASE please put a twist on it. Regular prank calls are so hacky and overused now a days.

However, when Opie an Anthony did things like that on WAAF in Boston, and even on WNEW here in NY they named it "Hi Mom, I'm in porno". They'd have a young lady call the station, then call her mom while she was on air, and "break the news" that she's in the porno industry.. and they'd get AMAZING reactions from these mothers. They also did other ones that I can't remember, but you get the point. Stuff like that is cool cause it puts a different twist on the now tired and played out prank calls. At least they're tired to me..

As far as other stuff, it depends on what kind of show you want to be. Do you want to push the envelope? Do you want to be like a local show that does the occasional wacky stuff? That all depends on what direction you want to go of course. I don't know the broadcasting rules in Australia but the FCC is really putting burdon on broadcasters here in the US if you want to be that edgy radio show.

I hope any of this babble helps haha

Good luck homie!

Chris

We are doing prank call games.. ones called "Trading Post Terror" where my mate pics an ad out of the trading post and calls the number. I have to ask 5 questions to the owner of the product and try and guess the item. Its hilarious :P

And we do the classic "Beat The Silence" where you call a random up and you can only hay "hello" 2 times throughout the whole call. We time how long the call lasts and how long until they get pissed off. Its a funny one too.

  • 2 weeks later...

Having a daily On Air Battle is fun, with people calling in to vote for a side they want.

A popular vancouver station does a new music battle daily called "The Battle of The Beats" (The Beat 94.5). They play 2 songs at 8pm, and take calls for half an hour. Announce the winner at the end, the winner returns the next night as the champion, taking on the next new song. It's entertaining.

As well, try to make the listener laugh. People often tune back in if its funny. For the odd laugh, I bleep popular songs/youtube clips unnescisarily. For example, Secondhand Serenade - Fall For You, easily becomes F*** For You.

Hope this helps,

-Curtis
