noobii
i am in the process of setting up a net station. for those of you who are playing indie songs, is it necessary for artist/band to sign release form or is the mention of artist submitting song to station agrees and consent for you to play their song without royalties on the site sufficient? aaronsnet
i am in the process of setting up a net station. for those of you who are playing indie songs, is it necessary for artist/band to sign release form or is the mention of artist submitting song to station agrees and consent for you to play their song without royalties on the site sufficient? To play it safe, I would suggest getting a release from the band if your not planning on paying royalties. Bands may become bigger and join a licensing agency later on...or they may submit it to you but later to try to take back that they actually gave you permission to play it royalty free. It's always better to keep a paper trail. There are several services that make online document signing quite easy.

CyberFM
We play Indie music on our "designated Indie channels" (but we have a whole product for this) ... you can have them sign a release, that also indemnifies you from paying royalties on currently "release signed music" should they register later. You're binding your contract with them "at that time" ...just get it worded right.
