Do some production companies "over-do" it?

i always hear some production companies over-doing their productions. Tip 1, they dont sound good the more sound effects you pack in! Donjt pack a million things in, keep it simple. All the producers here at BW have a good production touch, but have a look around the web at the ones that think they are the best..

Have you heard any ones that "over-do" it?

I have heard a few to be honnest, BUT i cant quite think of them at the moment. I am currently listening to a lot of stuff at pure tonic media i like the sound of them and i am hoping to go in that direction myself this year.

For me it all depends on the customer and what they require. As the type of station music often dictates the type of production they want ie top 40 all bells and whistles. Some of the best ones can be the best voice(very important) and the right track and just a bit of production, making the voice do the work for you. On the other hand if someone asks for me to be "creative as possible" then I have licence to explore beyond the norm......I do like being asked to do that.

I hear many overproduced VO's where the voice seems to take second place and that does not work for me.

Last point for me I like to work with great voices as it makes my job easier. We are lucky here at BW as we have great voices plying their trade. Long may it continue.

I have to agree with James that some imaging is way over the top as far as cramming in as many effects as possible. Mark always has an excellent balance in his productions.

Have to admit too that I find myself reaching for Alistair's stuff 99% of the time in my own productions. It stands up and above against many of the expensive libraries out there in my opinion.

I do too VJ. It has been working perfectly for me and I will be purchasing more of these great packages in the very near future.
