OK. This isn't easy, but here we go.

Those that now know a bit about me will have rad about my collapse last Monday. I had an MRI scan yesterday and combined with the other tests done during the week they think they now know what is wrong. It seems I may have Meniere's disease. This is a disabling disease of the hearing and in particular balance. ALL the symptoms indicate this is what I have, but of course they and I remain open minded.

To say it has been an interesting week would be an understatement. I am taking this in my stride to some extent, but I am not delighted by the news as you can imagine. I am a realistic person though and must accept that this is wonderful news compared to what it may have been, so I just have to live with this for now whilst they work out what medication/treatment is right for me. Obviously, the industry I work in won't help and moreover it will mean that I may have to leave the industry I love. Well, if that is the case, then that is the case. Again, I have to be realistic.

Anyway, nothing will be changing around here just yet anyway. I just thought I would share the news with my good friends on here. If nothing else it makes me feel a little better to share it with you.

Anyway, how has your week been?:boonie:

I am sorry to hear about this and wish you the best health. :( My week wasnb't perfect either to say the least, got in some trouble and some fights with collegues in my personal life and had some problems with my station today (it should be back on the air by tomorrow).

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis, but hopefully your doctor will find the right medication so you can continue what you love to do.

I wound up in the hospital this week for a couple of days myself. It appears to be nothing serious, but threw a scare into me. Maybe there is something in the air; full moon or something.

Prayers going out to you.

First of all Fin, sorry to hear about this.

Obviously, the industry I work in won't help and moreover it will mean that I may have to leave the industry I love. Well, if that is the case, then that is the case. Again, I have to be realistic.

It's good to be realistic, but I think whatever happens you will find a way round it to compensate and carry on as normal. I have had slight hearing loss in my right ear for years. Often I can't hear what the person next to me is saying without asking them to repeat themselves, yet I can spot a blip in a piece of audio or a problem with accoustics or whatever in a recording. It's like once the headphones go on, there's no problem. I'm sure you'll do the same, probably adapting much better than I have as you've been in the industry far longer.

Just read that one of my favourite artists, Paddy McAloon from Prefab Sprout, was struck with Meniere's a few years ago but is back recording and producing.

Keep us informed. We're all thinking about you here.

Fin, what a terrible week it has been for you. Most of us here have experienced some very unpleasant things in our lifetimes, some sooner than others. As human as we are, we learn to cope and get on with whatever it is we need to do.

Just last year I spent 10 days in Hospital after perforating a burst duodenal ulcer [i almost lost my life] Then our beloved cat passed away of skin cancer a few weeks later.

The year before all that, we had to move home because of the great British weather [sarcastically put] We ended up being flooded with water every summer and it got to the stage where we needed to move home - funnily enough, we now live by a water canal.

I know you’ll pull through this, and I honestly believe, like Alan said, you will find a way round being able to work in the industry that we’re all so very fond of.

Get well soon, Fin. See this as a time to relax and recover.

Thank you all so much.

I spent the afternoon in hospital again today having balance tests done. Now, call me thick but I assumed that would mean standing still, looking up and tocuhing your nose etc. Oh no. It is mainly done with vision. Warm air was blown into one ear which warms the eardrum and bits making you feel sick as a dog and VERY dizzy. They then watch your eyes through cameras on special goggles to see how dizzy you are. Then, the other ear, then the next test. Ohhhhhh. Sick dog me.

Anyway, more tests to be done and more waiting to be done.
