What they do is to offer you this service. Which usually buffers like crazy and / or is not listed on Shoutcast.

Then they try to get you to 'upgrade' to their premium service that will be a 'painless migration'.

You're correct, there is no way they can make money giving away free servers.

I'm looking for a free host as I am poor. I have one, and it works fine, but about 75% of the time it won't allow winamp to connect and I can't run a statistic relay on it from SAM... these seem to go hand in hand, anytime I CAN run winamp on it, the statistic relay works fine. I want people to be able to connect via MY site, not the crap that is http://www.listen2myradio.com - In my search today alone, I've found more than 30 forum threads that list this site as crap. I would have to agree. I hate it. I've even tried to embed THEIR player in my site to no avail.

If you know of any free hosts, or find any good ones, please, let me know.

Other threads were responded to by people that run servers and were more than happy to allow people to stream shoutcast from them. There still are some kindhearted people out there, I guess.

btw, listen2myradio.com at first for me, the server jumped around, I had to keep up with it, constantly changing the upload IP and port. What a pain in the butt!

I did answer. I answered that it was poor timing, as I had JUST filled out and paid for 3 months of service. Plus, my paranoid friend tells me to be wary of such offers. Also, I didn't know what it was you were trying to barter... the rights to use the image, or a print? If a print, well, they cost me, too. Just as much any user. The rights to use it? That's a no. I'm flattered and honored that you like it well enough to barter for it, but too little too late.

Sorry, I thought you got my answer.

Unfortunately, I don't think you will ever find a free host that's completely reliable as streaming is expensive and it is hard to offer for free without cutting costs right down. This means using lower quality bandwidth, cheap servers and getting as many streams per server as possible, resulting in occasional buffering and server overloads.

If you're just after a basic service which 'works most of the time', then a free service may be a good way of getting in to streaming, but as your station grows it may be worth asking your listeners for small donations towards the cost so that you can get paid hosting - if you have quite a few DJs playing on your station then they will probably be willing to donate as well, just explain that with a small amount of funding you can get a more reliable server.

I'm the only dj and want to keep it that way. Right now, listen2myradio.com suits my needs... I'm really just doing it for myself, and if I tell someone what I'm playing I'll direct them there if they ask. I found out the hard way until I can afford to go big and advertise, it's not really worth anything I have to pay for. However, I may go back to gameservers.com for a bit... they were around $4 a month for 10 listeners at 64 kbps... really all I would need ATM. I can't broadcast 24 hours a day right now, so anything more would be a waste. I need a desktop computer I could keep online all the time, I'm on a laptop right now.
