BBC Radio

Recommended Posts

The BBC has always been the world leader in radio. I grew up with BBC radio 2 and later radio 1, although I will confess to be a radio Luxembourg fan from the 70's.

BBC radio has had some of the ultimate legends in Radio:

Tommy Vance - now dead

Steve Wright - Now Radio 2

Simon Bates - Now Classic FM

Gary Davies - not sure

Bruno Brookes - invented the top 40 and now runs the Radio school

Kenney Everett - total genius, now dead

John Peel - legend, now dead

DLT - Hairy Cornflake, still reeling after Noel Edmunds Gotcha, got him!

Then we have the golden oldies like

Terry Wogan, been doing the same show on BBC Radio 2 since the 1960's

Ken Bruce, doing the same show for years - literally, like a stuck record!

Good old Humph, now dead

Good old JY etc etc etc

Yes, the Beeb has had its fair share of major players.

Gary Davies - not sure

He he - actually I think everyone remembers Gary for his "Bit In The Middle" daytime show and no doubt he was restricted as regards the daytime Radio One format. But the series of weekend late shows he did for Radio One were completely different. Gary has an encyclopedic musical knowledge. His later shows for Virgin Radio were always first class too.

Showing my age now, Fin...... I was a member of Luxembourg's "Club 208" in the 70s

My favourite station in the world. Radio 1. I love all the BBC has to offer radiowise and tvwise.

This is the topic for everything BBC radio!

Thanks for this thread, James. I've always got Radio 2 on when I'm at home or in the car.

Tommy Vance was a legend and still sadly missed by so many. The Friday Rock Show was the pinnacle of his career and to some degree he changed the face of Radio forever. RIP

The Tommy Vance name was an interesting subject. As I recall he was in LA or somewhere similar and went for an interview as a DJ. The guy who should have been going on air that day was a guy called 'Tommy Vance'. As our man was there and he wasn't, he went on air and the rest is history as they say. That is how Tommy Vance became Tommy Vance.

Guest Baabaa Productions

Show my age now but probably prefer Radio 2 to Radio One and also Radio 5. Radio one had some great talent in the past many from the days of pirate radio(my station was Radio Caroline North).

Fondly remember all the names mentioned and add:

Dave Cash and microbe

Emperor Rosko

and Adrian Juste for his comedy clips show.
