download/buy tracks ?

When I tell people that I will set up internet radio. Some of them asked if listeners have the ability to download the music, or can buy tracks from the CD. I am new to this, any one please explain what it is, how to do that, also, please show me example, if you have this feature on your site/radio.

There is programs offered for this.

 

The real question is: what is your clients intent? to promote his own music and sell it via FTP?(this can be done very easy) or just a general script that links to amazon for buying CD's? If you don't want to be specific, feel free to put other, and I will just spew out all I know (but you had warning, I can be very winded with off subject info)

With this being said, if they are looking for a general referral of music to buy program that is easy to embed, I recommend:

$8 a month for the functions they want, plus a rating bar that lets them decide how much they like the song, and a stat collector of all this data to boot.

 

If they just want the display, its $5 a mo.

 

 

Also their are free alternatives to this, but this is the easiest for beginners to embed in there site. Trust me, VERY EASY to embed.

I assume you'll use software similar to SAM ?

If so there's an amazon.com redirect link embedded to the "now playing" and "request" pages next to the artist / song

In general it redirect visitors / listeners to the artist page by using the name album + name artist .. but in most of the cases this data isn't always correct .. so the visitor has to make anyway at amazon.com a new search to the artist / song

Important notice is that you as project "never" may tell your listeners that they have the ability to download the music

But as always ... there are software types who makes it possible to record a track played at a stream .. by using players known as streamrippers ..

But as project you have to stream content and thats most important ... what the visitor or listener is doing with that content is none of your aka our business ... As project you pay the royalties ... and there gonna be always tools to rip or to copy content

or you can use a banrip.php script .. that script makes that several streamrippers used by listeners are banned at once they enter the stream .. however this ain't such a good idea .. several streamrippers are part of some important media player types such as Reciva etc ... so by making a ban on this media players you can loose lots of listeners ..

You're right though, it may not always be correct. Depends how sensitive the keywords are.

I have so many jaded thoughts about these bastard stream rippers.

 

They have been made a bad word, because its fueled the RIAA and sound exchange to new heights of beating down us, the broadcasters, with new royalty rates.

 

I want to show a never before seen picture of terrestrial stream ripping equipment. If the RIAA and Sound exchange knew this exsisted, God forbid we might not be getting the blunt end of the royalty stick.

Other reports say a !!CD recorder!! can be used with a FM radio headphone plug as a source! CALL SOUND EXCHANGE. Its 2007 all over again for terrestrial stations! No wonder MTV doesnt show music videos, a !!VCR!! could be used to fuel music royalty rates!

In fact everybody used it those days and nobody had any idea about the fact that an official audio source was ripped ... Everybody has tons of cassette tapes of the past decades with memories of old radiosets, interviews etc etc

In what we call the "Modern Times" its got the name of streamripper and suddenly everyone is talking into this digital world of the making of illegal recordings.

There are many many types of media players who has that "record" tool to record audio content random or on specific times .. also by keywords .. for example a user can insert a name of artist ex. Elton John .. and you gonna be able to record at once all streams who are playing at that time that kind of music.

We as broadcaster can do a lot to "ban" those streamrippers .. but after a while nobody is left at the stream .. or we can put the setting to "non public" .. but then nobody can find the stream unless they use the website

Friends of Me at The Netherlands had some years ago suddenly a complete full stream (slots) .. Awesome isn't !?

Untill they discovered that most of the users / listeners where in fact "fake" .. what means that those users where listening by streamrippers only ... so in fact the software was the listener .. not the user :doh:

 

Attached you'll find a ready to use php ban script (see rar file) who can be used by stations to kick that type of software

Just change the settings : IP, Port, Admin Name, Password and the script sends you even an email notification if somebody is banned

To use the script you have to leave the page open into your browser (after uploaded to your website)

Open "notebloc" to see all content .. some of those streamrippers are already written into the script .. and you can add more to the list ...

Please notice : I don't use the script .. but maybe it is usefull to other members .. however lots of listeners to internetradio do use popular media players who has also a setting to record audio content ...

That banrip works like a champ, but sometimes you roll into a dynamic program that switches the IP so A banrip program wont work. Thats when its time to roll up the sleeves and check the manual DNAS logs ( I still need to request something like this from WHMSonic). RIPbust is my personal flavor in zapping pesky rippers, and when they are listening from South America, you have to be suspicious.

 

 

I have noticed a pattern. Somewhere in the heart of South America, Somewhere a little north of UAE, and somewhere in Russia. I wouldnt be suprised if they was some kind of T1 server botting in these locations with the soul purpose of ripping tunes for resell.

 

Some kind of program that pings on metadata that it doesnt allready have and tunes into the stream to rip.

Yep ..

During holidays (XMas, Summer etc) at Europe lots of streams are bombed by German domains .. however these can be also redirected IPs coming from other parts of the world .. like you write as example from Russia etc etc

Because it happens very often during holiday periods I have a small idea that some "junior" guys and girls are upto in the making of some money ;)
