James
Found this said on mediauk forums... No decent experienced voice over will give you a ‘free ad for usage’ I will do short demos but they are always sent and saved at a sub broadcast standard, and have watermarks. I have been in this biz as a full time v/o for 20 years now. I am very good at my job. I have a first class sound studio. i do not need to ‘learn’ scripts, and usually unless the script is severely over or under written get it in 1!Everyone wants to be a voice over, however, very few can actually make a real living out of it! I am no expert but sum1 tht talk lyk this doesnt seem very professional, it doesnt take 20 years to learn how to type up something professionally! Studiio - All-In-One Radio Communication Platform SMS | Phone Calls | Social Media | Content
clairedodin
Well, actually I agree with her and I don't see what's wrong with her spelling (it's a forum not a professional letter). Obviously she is a bit sharp, but I'm guessing this was a reply to someone asking for a free commercial. Sorry James, but she's right. Voice talents wouldn't make a living if they gave out commercials for free. Please note that there is a big difference between commercials for profit and imaging for small web radios. :biggrinthumb:
wildun
I never expect anything for nothing. LOL.. I even said something to that effect when asking for a free voiceover here (never got one). Time and talent are a valuble asset and worth their cost. I did find a voice talent here and made a purchase, I was very happy with the results. After all, the idea is to get vo folks hooked up with folks that need their services I think. I suppose it's a matter of deciding how much you'll pay and how unique is the voice. We don't want the same voice on every station because it's cheap. By the same token voice talent needs to realize that things are changing. Internet radio is taking over music listening by storm, but it's an expensive endeavor that costs the broadcaster with no profit. Adjust your rates accordingly now for future profits. Internet radio will become profitable in the future and then readjust your rates. Those that understand this now will be the winners in the years to come. THREETEN RADIO
Please note that there is a big difference between commercials for profit and imaging for small web radios. :biggrinthumb:Agree with that for sure. The voice talents on this site have helped me with dry liners for free as I am only a hobbyist station broadcaster. A full commercial for a big station/name will cost a lot, rightly so. MADcHATTER
I agree with Claire 100% I've been doing freebies on here for many stations. I usually will do one or two. But every time someone posts for a Commercial to be done free I've made the same statement. A free drop or promo here or there is fine, but when it comes to someone wanting a Commercial for free, sorry...thats where I draw the line. If you intend to sell something, a product or a service then a commercial is not something you should get for free. Making money off of our work was and will not be part of the deal as far as I am concerned. I'll be happy to tell someone about your station. I'll be happy to help tell someone about your Djs. I'll even be happy to poke fun at any of them. But to just hand you something that makes you money? Sorry...try RD! MADcHATTER

Brutish Sailor
I get that weird vibe too James. Not to get too personal about this, but do you feel she was saying this in a way to be-little the VO's that support internet radio and small webcaster community? I don't talk professional, but I also treat this as a hobby. One thing I cant stand is VO's trying to charge an arm and a leg for small internet radio (which if they haven't learned by now, will NOT make money for us under the current royalty system. Radio is a loss for all of us till something gives in the system, and hopefully soon) For VO's to do that, their loss. I have recommended Bova and other VO's I have talked with to fellow broadcasters, friends, game owners looking for voices for scripts, people that talk about advertising. even look like they are thinking advertisement when I run into people in a social environment. Its an unspoken law that V/O's that support the small internet radio movement should only have the same respect right back at them. Consider it an indirect way of making a successful community happen... For others, self preservation may be king, but they are not going to have a lot to show for it when the chips are down.
