Blazin 97
I currently have stream rippers in South Africa and they are using up so much bandwith on my stream and website that my website is locked until the first of next month as I went over my bandwith limit which is 3.5 GB. However, my stream has "unlimited" bandwith and is not affected by them. Either that or I could upgrade but I don't feel it;s necessary I just gotta get rid of these rippers. I also used to have stream rippers from Brazil, they dissapeared after I changed SHOUTcast Servers though.
GKIye
Check my "ban streamripper scripts" who are attached to my earlier reply at this topic see http://forums.broadcastingworld.net/showthread.php?t=8371 Good luck ! I currently have stream rippers in South Africa and they are using up so much bandwith ... Visit and listen @ BW !
GKIye
That was about the same situation this side of the world untill mid-2008 But again .. I say : I cross my fingers that they are gone and I hope they don't return We mainly see them on our US servers, not the EUR servers. But the IP is usually from Germany, Russia, Romania ... voodoohippie
I had to go down because of lightning and I noticed someone trying to connect to my server over and over again. When I did an IP look up it was comming from Compute1.Amazon.com in Seattle Wa. I don't remember the ip though. It started with 174 I think. I noticed they had an older version of Winamp. By blocking older versions of Winamp we could block them and force all listeners to upedate their Winamp. You could have an intro file that plays over and over when you have an older player telling you to update it. I only have 10 listener slots as I'm a hobby station not making money on this and yes I pay for 8,000 ATH's on SWcast and I did the math so I could have 10 slots running 24/7. voodoohippie
So what is compute1.amazon.com when I do an ip lookup on a listener's ip? Does Amazon use bots or is it that Amazon is also an ISP? GKIye
If I make a WHOIS check on that one I get this IP = 67.222.132.194 and it takes Me to this domain http://www.tailoredservers.com/ compute1.amazon.com Note : I'm not 100% sure if the results are alright .. but thats what I find by using your details Important is also the following : If your project has redirect links at 3rd party sites who provides audiostreams it can happen that their servers are sending a ping to your stream (aka trying to connect) to check if the stream is up and running An example is Reciva. To be sure that their offered stations are aired they are visiting every stream at least twice a day My local time (CET) thats at 04-05pm and 04-06am .. on the stats appear at those moments for about 1 minute castle.reciva.com So maybe its a service who is checking your stream ... Good luck ! Visit and listen @ BW !
johny c
I have been unlisted on Shoutcast for almost a week and it has made no diffence to the rippers, they still try. Even ip's that have been in my ban list for ages. 2 choices = Stop streaming or just put up with it. Me, I just put up with it. as we say here in New Zealand. Stop trying to push shi* uphill ! shoutcaststreaming
The program by IORSN called Rest In Peace (RIP) works well againt the rippers. We used it and the rippers are at a bare mininum. We are going to test our a server side program to stop them before they hit the stream. voodoohippie
I don't know if KWD services did something to help me but I don't see as many stream rippers. I did post my station on Streamfinder and I had to post the swcast.net site so that my license was valid. I couldn't get Recieva to work I tried to post my station there. They require a script and their bot needs to see your script. I used my http://thelegacyradio.tripod.com site and their bot could not see their script. I gave up after trying for quite some time.
