producerpinnell
I don't have children myself, but I can understand why you'd want to keep your children off school, especially if someone else at the school had Swine Flu, and passed away. Although, the vast majority of people who have died because of Swine Flu in the UK have had other health problems too. Of course, I don't expect yourself, or any other parents or children at the school to know if this girl had other underlying health problems, but that could have played a part. If you feel the fine is wrong, I am sure there are ways you can appeal against it. Again, I can wholly understand you caring for your kids health, which would be a valid reason perhaps to appeal against it, given the current climate. There are talks that some schools might not open at the beginning of the Autumn term too, should Swine Flu increase in the UK, with schools being given instructions at some point during August. I'm sure parents would like to know the happenings of this first too, so they can plan work around it, call babysitters, child minders etc. In terms of the dinner ladies and other staff staying away and potentially loosing their jobs, in writing, this doesn't sound right, but, there could be other factors as to why the council / school would want them in, as I'm sure there are precautions they'll take. When all is said and done though, things will get worse, before they get better, and once it's all gone, the Government can look into what systems worked, and what systems haven't worked, and plan better for the next time. My thoughts also go out to the family of the girl who died.
Arfa B
The proof is in the pudding, the girl died- and your kids are still ok! A fine is worth much less than your kids! If I have helped you with a Freebie- please be kind enough to add a link from your own site or blog to mine- thanks! http://arthurburton.net Thank You! Arfa B
I know that was just saying if i do get a fine its abit unfair... I agree Fozzy, but- the one I have learnt over the years is that life IS unfair, and generally organisations, authorities and especially governments are total morons! You can be sure of one thing, if it were to be threatening the House Of Commons, they would soon shut down, even leaving behind their lovely benfits, such as the cheap booze in the "tea rooms" (bars) at the House Of Commons. Just refuse to pay the fine, and be as awkward as possible, if you feel you are morally right (and YOU ARE!) then stick two fingers up at them! There is faaaaar too much power control excercised AT us nowadays! clairedodin
I can see why they don't want everyone to panic, but if it were my kids, I'd keep them home! Even if it would mean paying a fine!

As soon as they heard the news they went down to the school to pick up their children and have refused to send them back until September. I believe you have done right by your children, fozzy.
