I ask you Guys who offer hosting half price and crap do you care if they are legal?? half of you guys dont aslong as you get money.. and then say you care about net radio ?? (dont think so) And half of you dont even own the server lol..

The problem is the cost come back on us who do pay for copyrights and you guys dont help..

your just in it to make a buck here and there thats it...Well id say 40 per cent of you are ..If not why not offer cover yes will cost you more and have to pass this on.But then your deals will have to go thats why ?? I think the law should be fine and shut down the guy whos not legal and the company who host him then you would think twice ...

We tell all of our clients right away that they need to get licensed. We give them 10 days after they sign up to prove they are licensed before we warn them. After that, we either shut down their stream or report them. It is true, and I agree what you are saying about getting licensed, but it is a whole lot cheaper to get licensed through a third party than it is through the streaming company because of 2 things.

1) The cost will be a lot higher

2) Most places probably havent heard of you (iTunes, WMP, etc.) and wont accept your stations.

Solution at my country is easy

We are asked to mention Our ID as member of the Royalty agency on the website (mainpage) of the streaming project.

If anyone is checking for a prove etc etc .. it can be found at the URL of the project.

It can be also interesting to "others" ...

to my project I use a .eu domain, so not one of Belgium (.be) .. so in fact I can tell anything possible to anyone .. but agencies of outside my country do see the ID of the Belgian agency ..

To Me it looks an easy and safe way to work.

At The Netherlands they are using the same regulations

We always offer advice on licensing as much as we can but we do not request proof of licensing as many stations don't need licensing due to being talk shows and playing copyright free music as well as being in different countries all around the globe of some which do not require a license.

For those requesting proof of licensing are they aware of the differing licensing requirements in every country? if not then people can fob you off with any old information.

Hosts simply dont have the correct information freely available to do this.

We are in the hosting business and not the licensing police but we are in discussion with some various agencies about offering licensing as a product but if i'm entirely honest these people don't make it easy.

we are offering money on a plate and they are simply not interested in taking it because its not the right shape plate,

if it was that easy then it would be as freely available as a shoutcast server is.

so playing devils advocate here i will ask if everyone that is licensed is geo locked to the country that they are licensed in if not then are they not really licensed as people all around the globe can hear the music?

I dont think its right that you blame the hosts for not caring about the situation as its not really the hosts job to enforce the licensing and do the job that the agencies should be doing.

Please dont take this the wrong way as it is only a conversation piece but people want all the tools and features from graphs , logs , stats , scripts and control panels, dj panels , players and links and 24/7 support and server stability and second to none service levels and on top of that you now want licensing policing and want to pay bottom dollar for everything.

A lot of hosts make sure they are compliant with the agencies and companies that provide licensing by providing you the ability to give the agencies the information they need to charge you accordingly and try to make their life's as easy as possible but its not a 2 way thing.

Does that mean all mechanics should be enforcing the law and making sure everyone has a license to drive?

i think a lot of hosts get a bad press from a lot of people because it is said they are just making money out of you which is a real shame when they are only trying to give everyone the tools they need to make their station the best around.

You will find that every decent host works exceptionally hard to ensure their customers are happy so the hosts should be doing what they do best and not have to worry if everyone else is not doing their job properly
