JBVoice
I thought I'd write up a post thats been on my mind lately. Internet radio is becoming such a big deal, but I also see great stations trying to sound commercial and then going downhill. I think the whole point of internet radio is to have great content with pretty much no FCC regulations, but I am seeing now, that more and more net stations are running ads. Why? What do you guys think about this? I personally think all net stations should be commercial free, I always turn the radio off during commercials anyway Comments? -JB PS. Maybe I will write up some articles in the future about my experience in voice overs Add some spice to the site. Jon Bova "Successful people have libraries. GKIye
First of all .. running ads ain't possible to all projects .. for example to non-commercial stations Otherwise you do have a good point ... With the birth of Wi-Fi etc etc who makes it possible that webradio expands to other aria's than the pc only .. I guess in about some years webradio gonna be a type of radio "next" to the current FM stations Who knows that into some years webradio don't gonna be anymore that exclusive as it is these days (aka to some lesser known untill unknown, or not used because they have to switch their pc to "on") Differences between FM and webradio still gonna stay as it is, webradio gonna stay "more or less" independent projects Into the future ads can be helpfull, however the target audience gonna still stay way lower than ads who are aired at FM stations Fact is to achieve the much as possible listeners who do return to the same webradio, because We are all streaming worldwide .. that ain't that easy ... Once everyone is used to their project as listener I guess a donate button gonna give more satisfaction than the profits made by ads Visit and listen @ BW ! JBVoice
For sure, I think web radio will be right up there with FM stations in the next few years but my personal opinion is, web radio should get sponsorships, and instead of running ads, get daily sponsorships from companies and have a simple liner "Today's sponsor is: xxxxxxxxx, for more info go to......" There is this one station owned by the community college here that is like that, and EVERYONE listens to them because they have no commercials But, sometimes I guess commercials are needed to make money, sad truth :/ -JB Jon Bova "Successful people have libraries. johny c
But sponsorships are commercials, and are played the same as commercials. If you have a sponsor for each show you have, well you are doing the same as commercials. Radio stations if they are on the net or not need some money coming in to pay the bills. Thats the facts of life unless you have a rich Daddy paying the bills. People will watch Tv with commercials, so I think they need to stop complaining about the commercials on web radio( I mean they dont stop watching Tv because of the commercials do they). I only have a few every now and then, but I have a transmitter to run plus the net to pay for. Stations id's are just commercials as well, but for the station. In saying that I think most commercial radio stations are sometime a bit over the top with their commercials, but they are there to make money, not do it for fun. With us we do it as as a hobby, but it still costs us. My 10 cents worth which I wish I had. JBVoice
I see the point you are trying to make, I agree with you, that seems like the logical way to make money, maybe even the only way for some. But what I was saying about the local college station, they get daily sponsors, 1 a day or sometimes a 3 day sponsor and there are no commercials. The presenter will just state, todays music is brought to you by.......blah blah blah and boom, back to the music. Now, for net stations...I can see why they might think they need commercials. Some do, the successful ones out there that are big, like radio paradice or some other big time one that has 10,000+ listeners at a time. But, when I tune into a low budget station, I sometimes hear spoof commercials and those are hillarious and I don't mind, but if they are anything other than that I am turned away from the station. Just my opinion, thanks for the feedback to the post, I love hearing other peoples views. Jon Bova "Successful people have libraries.
