billh
A 14-year-old girl tells you she was raped when she was 12 and your reply is "Is that the only experience you've had?" What was he thinking? Don't know the whole story, but I think his remark was out of line. She's only 14 (a kid) my grand-daughter is almost that age (12). If I had a kid tell me that I'd get Pi$$ed off and ask who did it and then the cops would be looking for me. "I'm Retired" Donations PayPal.Me/artistview . James
Note that nobody had a clue what the girl would say except the mother. The mother gave full permission for her to be asked that question. Sure he said something that he shouldnt have but he is a radio host that hasnt had anything like this before ever. How would you react if you interviewed a little girl about it. I think the media has given too much hype about him, explaining it was his fault (partially it was) but he shouldnt have been sacked. My opinion. johny c
There's no need for this sort of rubbish on the radio or tv. Someone knew what was going to happen, you cant tell me other wise. I hope the station is going to get a fine as well. A real host would have shut it down straight away if he didnt know it was going to happen. As well as the Mother, what can you say about her. JBVoice
I forgot to include that, maybe the way he handled it wasn't the best, and it is people like him and Howard Stern that give broadcasters a bad name...but from a DJ's point of view, I know sometimes something you think is appropriate, might not be and you don't realize it until after the deed is done. I do think he could have handled it differently, but....thats just me. -JB Jon Bova "Successful people have libraries. NickolasM.
The DJ should of done something like this, DJ: Have you had any sexual encounters? Girl: I was raped when I was 12... DJ: And that's it for Our show Please enjoy the music! And then continue off-air and Really, He sounded like a A#% when he said that. He could Said 'Oh, Really? Besides that have you had any encounters?' instead of "Is that the only experience you've had?" --Add-on-- From reading the rest of it, This guy sounds like a pervert who should not be on the air, I am wondering how he can talk about topic's like that, yet I am not a aussie so I do not know what the rules are there... billh
Looks like Bad publicity, really is good publicity. Someone posted something like that not to long ago in the chat box. The station must think a lot of people will listen to the show to hear what happens next. "I'm Retired" Donations PayPal.Me/artistview . JBVoice
Wow, you might have a solid point there Bill. It's pretty sad that they would use something like this to get more listeners! GKIye
ok ... first of all ... do not shoot Me down ... I'm single, no kids and so far healthy of spirit and mind ... But when I read the article I see that the reply of the host was made after an announcement was made as written below of this : On last Wednesday's 2Day FM breakfast program, a 14-year-old girl was hooked up to a lie detector and asked on air about her sexual history, at her mother's request. This is what I call the reality hunger of each of the viewers and listeners to media. Nothing isn't normal anymore ... Years ago it begun with formats such as Big Brother and everybody watched all editions from the first untill last second. These days no program can't get anymore viewers or listeners if it isn't giving any "shock" to the audience ... When the girl revealed she had been raped when she was 12, Sandilands responded, "Is that the only experience you've had?" so ... I agree the question who was asked was made with a terrible wrong timing ... but .. once again if I see TV-shows (what's in name !) such as Dr Phil, editions of reality TV-shows and lots more I'm getting the idea that more and more "entertainment" shows go way deeper than the question on top of this. The general audience is hungry for the latest, most unique topic, most shocking, ... even the content of it has no taste. To all the Fathers and Mothers at BW ... I agree 14 years old is still a child, even I don't have any kids uptill now but when I see, hear, ... those kids of that age these days ... well my friends ... Myself and I guess you all didn't had any notice at that age of what was going around at the World ... They all do for sure "these" days ... In Our great 2k century We have to accept that most of the youngsters are these days young adults even the law is accepting "being adult" in most of the countries at the age of 18 aka legal age. In more and more countries its normal that someone of 15 - 16 can make decissions of any kind ... however the parents stay responsable untill they reached the adult age of 18. For reason that in this case it happened at her Mothers request ... it looks to Me that the Mother didn't have made any conclusions before the facts / broadcast .. so the Mother stays responsable if something goes wrong during the broadcast. The host did his job however he had a bad timing for sure. Visit and listen @ BW !
billh
We all know kids at the age of 14 even younger have sex. But being raped, that just isn't right. I don't care who's kid it is and to ask a kid "Is that the only experience you've had?" after they tell you they've been raped. You have got to be one of the dumbest people on earth to ask that question. The mother should be help accountable also. By the way, has anything happened to the mother that anyone knows of? In my area the state would more than likely take the child away after a parent did something like that. Both of them (Mother & DJ) need a good kick in the back-side To me what makes this whole thing wrong is “A child was raped” and the mother agreed to put her on the air, and the DJ/station was dumb enough to put it on the air. Just to find out if she had sex with other people. Whats the point in that? Whats the mother upset because she isn't getting any? "I'm Retired" Donations PayPal.Me/artistview .
