Doing a thesis about radio production and I need your help!

Recommended Posts

Hello there, my name is Ville and I´m currently doing my bachelor of arts degree on one of the commercial radio stations located here in Finland. I´m going to do a whole "roof production" for the channel, including IDs, Promos spots, jingles etc.

Now, not only do I have to produce all these, but I have to do a hefty written report about the subject and this is where I need your help. I´m looking for a radio production books that cover this matter and which go more deeper to the topic. I´m looking for a "good read" books, not too heavy tech books but not too light beginners books either, to find a new angle to the whole production and maeby some few production tips as well to help me on the way.

Thanks for your advice! :biggrinthumb:

thanks for the links mate, I checked them trough and it seems that they mostly cover on the practical side of radio production. I´m looking material about eqs, compression, effects & mastering audio and have not yet found a comprehesive release that would cover this aspect of radio production...

Thanks for the update

it looks that I misunderstood your question ... sorry

I guess, by making a similar topic into the "general chat" you gonna receive easier a reply with some ideas who can point you to the right spots at the internet ...

Or if you don't know what could be the best solution, PM James (the owner)

Anyway there are lots of professional members at BW who are into that kind of business .. so the "general chat" section should work out for you

Good Luck !

There have been some books on this subject over the years, going back SONY (I think it was?) produced a book on tape editing.

Being a very subjective thing, it is different for every person that produces audio work- and describing how it should be done, is sometimes difficult in words. You have to EXPERIENCE it, to understand really. I am afraid, experience is the only REAL teacher!

I would strongly recommend listening to the "Record Producers" series on the BBC, that will teach you a lot about the techniques employed in music/audio production. I think it's on BBC6 http://www.bbc.co.uk/6music/

If I have helped you with a Freebie- please be kind enough to add a link from your own site or blog to mine- thanks! http://arthurburton.net

Thank You!

Thanks Arthur for your reply, I´ve been in the music tech uni for 4 years now, so I pretty much know the ins and outs of music production. I´m kinda looking a book that would give me a good ground to get into the very essence of radio production, as it´s pretty much all the same as studio production but at the same time there are wide differences that differ from studio production.

Now I know there are books that cover this area, as I´ve seen few books about the matter could anyone point me to the right direction where to look for these books?
