A few pointers from my end.

First let me tell you that it sounds great for a basic aircheck. But, if I was a station director (which thankfully I'm not lol) I would probably toss it away after the first 10 seconds. Not because its bad, just for the fact that the beginning of the mp3 is dull. Maybe adding something at the beginning that is upbeat and catchy? That is the advice my voice coach gave me for my work and I am passing it to you. Hope it helps? Good luck!

Hi Chris,

A small European review for you ...

- However your voice sounds "young" it sounds fresh and sparkling

- Into the first part I hear a lot of "PoPs" .. like PomP, Pink floyd .. looks like you are to close to your mic or your "P" sounds too heavy

- The start of the file sounds indeed as a kind of "fade in"

You are using as break between each part a SFX element .. so maybe a nice idea to start also with a similar sample or an impressive ID or jingle

- It looks to Me also that the file needs some adjustements to the sound .. your voice sounds to loud to the music, and your SFX elements do sounds way to loud ... what makes that your music (tracks) samples are giving Me the idea that these disappear for a part ...

If I listen to the file from the point of view of a radiostation it should give Me the idea that music is less important than the voice of the host

Conclusion :

Manage and adjust your volume levels as it should be heared as a live session of one of your radiosets. Afterall the idea of an aircheck is how it should sound if it would be aired at a station

Hope this was usefull

Thanks GKR!

I appreciate all of your critiques. I'm pretty sure I saved the session here at the station, so I can tweak it.. though I already submitted it to our PD. None the less, I'd rather have a version that sparkles for me, if anything.

It's funny that the pops came through so heavily, I was using a technique of cutting across the mic, plus even though its an RE-20 and it's internally pop filtered, it had a pop filter on it! hah

All the other stuff is a matter of adjusting flow, and volumes so I can easily take care of that.

Thanks again guys, I really appreicate your takes on it.

Hi Chris,

Concerning the "PoPs" .. these are lesser into your second part of the file.

They are more heavy into the first part.

I'm using surround sound speakers at my place and the file has been played by WinAmp (regular EQ settings) ... so what I heard should be heard by you also

As Belgian I'm not a native English speaker so I can't discuss all technical details as it should be .. but I guess you only have to work to the use of the "P" into your spoken words.

No filter gonna makes the "P" disappear if the host has a too strong "P"

An other idea I had is the following :

Including all details who're written earlier by Me, I think a station can prefere also to hear the way "intro's" are made ...

Operational this means : intro - talk - music/singing artist

After that part a SFX element can be used or as production pro you can easily mix the end part of the track to it + the announcement and the start to the next track etc etc

That way you have to use lesser SFX elements

Good luck !

Sorry, I'm on vacation so I didnt check back alot....but...I meant like the first 10 seconds should be 'ear catching'. Sorry for the misunderstanding :)

It's not bad, not bad at all...but very basic. You've got a great sounding voice, perfect for any station geared towards a younger crowd, I'm guessing your just starting out and have a great future in front of you in this business. Keep developing as a personality, and don't always stick to song names and liner cards...It's easy to fall into that trap....and you can become "Just another corporate voice" pretty easy. Keep at it and good luck.

My only critique would be

slowwww dowwnnn

have you ever been talking to someone and they suddnely just have absolutely no idea what you just said?

the human voice is something that people have to focus on, and process what is being told to them.

when you're racing ahead, it is very difficult for anyone to process what youre saying and hear it.

make a point of slowing down, if it feels uncomfortable, then its probably right.

you may hear people on commercial radio speaking 'fast' but its still much slower than what theyd normally talk because otherwise people would have no idea what they are saying.
