saint
Would stream providers consider using Peer to Peer streaming technology as a FREE added feature to entice customers to use their streaming service. NickolasM.
I think it would be a great thing to add in free, I think sales would go up from adding it free, Wouldn't it? I mean P2P Streaming is a nice feature to have.
tjmarx
Ok, I'm sure this is a silly question, but what is peer to peer streaming?
saint
Peer to peer streaming is like using Bittorrent to distribute content. Instead of a central server sending out streams to listeners, each listener relays the broadcast to the next person wanting to listen. tjmarx
So it allows for a theoretical unlimited listener base then? Given that you would be piggy backing your listeners internet account to aid in broadcast? Does it have any affect on quality, given the variation in your listeners bandwidth? saint
Yes, client bandwidth can affect the quality of transmission, however - the latest generation of open source P2P streaming has adapted BitTorrent Streaming for live multimedia streaming. Checks are in place that would "penalize" listeners that do not have the proper bandwidth. BitTorrent can scale wonderfully for individual data file delivery, there is 100% content delivery. The same can be expected from the streaming adaptation of BitTorrent. So it allows for a theoretical unlimited listener base then? Given that you would be piggy backing your listeners internet account to aid in broadcast? Does it have any affect on quality, given the variation in your listeners bandwidth?
