gulfam
I have listened that it is possible to show fake listeners in shoutcast stream. For example, a radio has 50 listeners at this time, but it can show 100 listeners to the shoutcast server as well as other people. Just for learning purpose, I'd ask if somebody knows it, please do share here. How can one make fake shoutcast listeners script? If not possible as post, do send me as personal message. Thanks in anticipation.
qmr
Why would you want to do this? sounds dishonest if you want to display incorrect listening stats!
JBVoice
I can understand the desire to make a station look bigger, it makes people think its a popular station, I'll admit, I have done something similar, but it is NEVER a good idea, in the long run, the listeners will find out - as in my case. I don't know how to do what your talking about, but my advice is, just promote your station, hand out flyers and word of mouth, do it the right way -JB Jon Bova "Successful people have libraries. kwdservices
While I know perfectly well how to do this, I'm not going to give it out or post it publicly. It is flat out being dishonest and can get you in a whole lot of trouble with the law. Please don't take this rudely, but that's like coming in here and asking us for directions on how to rob a bank. I understand your desire to look bigger, but you need to do it the right way. Besides, if you fake all of your listeners, you'll never have a successful station due to the fact that all of your listeners aren't even real... shoutcaststreaming
We had a customer from Denmark who did that. They had 100 listeners at 128k. We thought it was strange that our Data Center was reporting that the bandwidth of our server was maxing out. That is not possible with 100 slots at 128k. Then we determined that they were streaming video from 512k to 684k to the 100 listeners. They were running top DVD releases with no regard to copyright infringment. Their video streaming had 100 listeners 24 / 7 waiting to watch their movies. They faked what ShoutCast was reporting and fooled us for a month. As kwdservices has stated .. yes, we know how to do it. And it is borderline fraudulent, and we also won't tell you how. Gulfam you should focus on the good, not the bad !! fridaynightsmoke
I would agree with the other posters; if you're worried about 'low' listener numbers putting people off listening, then just provide a link to the stream from a web page, and don't display listener numbers. saint
Actively "market" your station and optimize your website for search engine placement. You can use a lot of simple and effective "guerrilla marketing" techniques that will honestly give you more listeners without costing a small fortune. gulfam
Thank you all of you friends. I am not going to implement it on my station. I wanted to know it just for my own knowledge. I know, if I can't see real number of listeners, I'll not strive to get more. If someone can, it will really be a greatness.
citrus3
One of our customers had a php script that would display the total number of listeners on his station and automatically double or triple it. Quiet a sad tactic I think. Why not try to get the listeners than sitting there telling yourself and your listeners lies about how popular your radio really isn't Citrus 3 Shoutcast Hosting
gulfam
Thank you. I was not interested to implement such a trick. I asked it just for my knowledge. Thank you again.
metaloz
This is definitely not a good thing to do for more than one reason. Not just the dishonesty of the deal, but you may also be up for more cost in streaming due to royalties etc. Its not worth doing on any level. DerylMorley
I never display listener numbers at my site. They are private and for my use only. I also never give them out. However I do have a few screenshots of SAM with my server maxed out that I keep for fun (it's been a while since I have maxed it out, but it's also been a while since I have pushed the station hard as well). We had a guy that used to fire up about 20 or 30 winamps, iTunes, WMP, whatever when he went on to make it look like he had more listeners than he did. We caught on REAL fast with the shoutcast listener stats when all the connections were from the same IP as the stream was originating from. There went his "it's a college" excuse. lol
