Arfa B
I can't go into detail about the project- not yet anyway!... Well, I am producing a radio Doc. and I contacted a well known UK newspaper and asked for permission to simply take a few facts from an article they had published. Now, I could have taken the info. re-written it, and not bothered to ask for any permisiion at all- but, thought I would do the HONOURABLE THING!. So, I get a reply asking me to pay £375.00 for a short term license to use this info. (What friggin' planet do these people live on!!!- it's not this one for sure!) After a small amount of research, I discovered the said newspaper had taken the info. in their article from a website, and what is more, never even asked for permission! I asked this original publisher for permission to use this info. and they immediately said yeah sure, no problems- it's totally free!!! I WILL NEVER, EVER, EVER TRUST THE PRESS AGAIN! Bast***s If I have helped you with a Freebie- please be kind enough to add a link from your own site or blog to mine- thanks! http://arthurburton.net Thank You! fridaynightsmoke
AFAIK, 'facts' ARE NOT copyrightable anyway, although a 'news story' (which (sometimes!) contains 'facts') IS. The facts themselves are public domain (unless they are classified as 'hot news' anyway), the journalist's analysis, opinions, prose etc are copyrighted. Lloyd
What are the chances that the news paper will 'attack' you about this? Make sure you have proof that you got permission from the original source maybe?
Arfa B
I'm OK- I have permission from the correct person, the originator of the information.
