Dive95
Here is the deal. Im new to this site and my name is Ben. I was offered to run an LP-FM station that has been an unmaned station for the last 4 years. The guy that was running it was moving so they offered it to me. I have been doing all kinds of research but am having some problems deciding on equiptment. So that is where you guys come in. What would you get if you already had the transmiter, eas system, and a great processer? saint
Hey Dive, Welcome to Broadcast World. Here are my suggestions for the computer stuff. You can probably get away fairly easy with a 2 ghz machine with 2 gigs ram. You probable want to look at getting at least 2, one for station operation and one for audio production. * If you scrounge good enough you can get these fairly cheap. Software you want to get : Station automation software - http://forums.broadcastingworld.net/showthread.php?t=5687 Audio editing software - http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ ( FREE ) You can even look into this - http://ubuntustudio.org/ ( FREE ) I am not terribly familiar with the audio side of broadcasting so I hope that one of the voice gurus will lend you some info. Bizzacore
Board: Arrakis ARC-8 ($799 introductory price) from BSW http://bswusa.com/proditem.asp?item=ARC-8 Programs: Adobe Audition for Production http://www.adobe.com/products/audition/ haha whoops! Forgot automation in the original post haha There are a bunch of different options for that one.. take a look in the thread re-posted by Sait, there are alot of good options in there.. or you can look for like a big setup like ENCO's DAD .. though that whole setup might take most of your budget right off the bat X_X Mics: Rode Procaster - $229 from BSW http://bswusa.com/proditem.asp?item=PROCASTER Monitors: M-Audio Powered Monitors .. take your pick, their pretty cheap http://www.bswusa.com/searchresult.asp?searchType=category&cat=speakers&brand=MAUDIO Computer: I'd get at least 2 - 3 computers, all Dual Core or better. You figure, you need 1 machine to surf the net, 1 machine to run your automation, and 1 machine to put together production. Anything else: Headphones: Senheiser HD202's $20 bucks from BSW http://www.bswusa.com/proditem.asp?item=HD202 Microphone Processing: DBX 166XL Compressor/Expander/Limiter/Gate $260 from BSW http://www.bswusa.com/proditem.asp?item=166XL You could also look into a podcast studio package for puroduction stuff .. like either of these setups http://www.bswusa.com/proditem.asp?item=PODCAST-STARTER http://www.bswusa.com/proditem.asp?item=PODCAST-PRO There are a bunch of different ways to do the radio studio setup, I thinik this is one of the cheapest ways to go. BSW will be your best friend, and they're so good about Free Shipping and all that stuff.
Aeolus
well let me try to give the tip of the day : also look for second-hand stuff on ebay etc. Except for my microphone arm, microphone and 1 of the pc's, my whole studio is existing from 2nd hand equipment, which usually means you have better and bigger stuff, for less money. Bizzacore
that's a very good point .. except I haven't been able to find a whole lot of anything in the way of consoles on e-bay .. actual broadcast consoles that is. Also, when I did they weren't anything I could afford haha But eBay is definitely a place to check none the less. Also, Craigslist is a good outlet for people selling niche stuff like this. Aeolus
yes well, must say, ebay is the only international site to get 2nd hand stuff that i know off... here in the netherlands we have more sites like that (just aimed at NL), and thats where i got a lot of stuff from. My mixer has cost me about 220$, but it works like a charm, and it does want i want it to (and believe me, i demand a lot when buying a console). Most important thing is patience... if you have some patience in your search for equipment, you will find some nice stuff eventually
