Unkle B
Our station is currently running SAM on automation. We are switching to Shoutcast soon. I was wondering if anybody can point me to some tutorials that are in laymens terms that any host can understand. Another question is does there have to be somebody at the streaming computer when a live remote goes on with Shoutcast or can that all be done from the remote? Unkle B
Thank you for the links saint. But my main concern is does someone have to do anything to the machine that pushes the stream to the server when someone from a remote goes live? We have hosts literally from all over the country. So I assume that for any of them to hook up to the stream would be a "live remote".
Unkle B
I'm also interested in finding some alternative software to winamp that hosts can use to connect with to do a show.
Arfa B
There is simplecast and the other one made by spacial audio (it's almost identical!!!) called SAM Encoder (which is either standalone or comes with SAM Broadcaster), they are both heavily overpriced for what they are. There are others for sure, do a search! Winamp with Shoutcast is totally free, and is just as good as both of those. If I were you, stick with Winamp and shoutcast. Winamp/shoutcast works really well! You can run an audio processor plug-in DSP too. I highly recommend Octimax- sounds excellent. http://www.winamp.com/plugin/octimax/95237 There is are free ones too that lots use http://www.soundsolution.it/forum/ and http://www.burnill.co.uk/ MBL eats up the processor though! Re: the earlier question, your DJ's/presenters can either be relayed by the main studio, or can connect to the main streaming server- depends how you want to do it? If I have helped you with a Freebie- please be kind enough to add a link from your own site or blog to mine- thanks! http://arthurburton.net Thank You! Unkle B
Thanks arthurburton. I was a little concerned there might be a big learning curve with the free stuff. Not sayin we're dumb or anything, we have learned everything on the fly without ever being in Terrestrial Radio. I have been podcasting for 3 years before doing the radio thing. I was thinking "How much different from podcasting can it be?" Boy was I wrong. :-) But I'm a fast learner.
