James
discuss. whats the best? i like the goose neck for the flexibility but it cannot hold the heavy c-2 mics :( also they make a horrible sound when theres weight on it. but the straight necks can hold more weight and are alot more stronger Studiio - All-In-One Radio Communication Platform SMS | Phone Calls | Social Media | Content

Well we all have to start somewhere don't we,I thought you might have progressed to a Scissor Mic Arm by now,the one that broadcasters use,Well thats what i use now...more sturdier..and you ain't got wires trapsing all over the floor...The goose necks tend to not be as good, seem to go on the wear and tear side very Quickly..Anyone contemplating getting one, would be better of getting a Broadcast Scissor Arm ,they are certainly around the same price if not cheaper... dj.plazma
I think a scissor arm, also know as a broadcast boom, is the way to go. There are a few out there at a decent price. I have one made by Heil, and it supports a rather heavy condenser mic that I use. I've got a couple of the Heil mic booms and prefer them over all others. Goosenecks are noisy and unstable, especially under the weight of a good microphone.

MADcHATTER
I had a straight boom with springs on it for tension and support that creaked horrendously. Then a fellow DJ of mine got one and replaced the springs with, of all things, round vacuum cleaner belts! It worked perfectly and no more creaking spring sound. Just a helpful tip

RadioCIA
I'm partial to boom stands myself. We're planning to move to Texas and build a new house in November, my studio there will likely have a scissor arm.

Mott Productions
I would for sure go with the scissor arm as it is a great option for voice recording. A straight stand just gets in the way. -Patrick
