producerpinnell
Hello everyone, In January 2010, Pinnell Productions will be running a week long promotion to celebrate a year of the website. (It'll be a year old on January 1st!). I won't reveal too much about the promotion just yet, but also my rate cards are up for a bit of a review, and I was just wondering what you guys thought about my prices as they are at the moment. Obviously when I have done work for clients in the past, they have either paid the price that is online and in the rate cards (If they wanted that specific item), but there has also been some negotiations with some of the prices, either because the client thought it was too much, or too little in some cases for the project I worked on for them. You can view all prices online by clicking here for voiceover prices, and clicking here for audio/imaging production prices. I've only been charging people since April 2009 (That's when I became Self Employed), and would be interested in seeing if you guys thought the prices were good, bad, or what could be improved. Hope that all made sense, and I really appreciate your feedback, and will take all comments on board

I didn't know the industry standards are, but shall take these into account with other factors when I rework my own rates. I was shocked myself at how much I charge compared to the industry standard! Thanks again

NickolasM.
As a normal consumer, I'd say they are very reasonable,
shoutcaststreaming
Do you know what the industry standards are? Here is a link...http://www.voices.com/voice-over-rates.html That is for terrestrial radio. This in Internet Radio. These broadcasters don't have that kind of money. I highly doubt that you can get $200 - $500 for a 15 second Liner from most Internet Radio people. But if you do, maybe I'm in the wrong business. JBVoice
From my personal experience, my prices have always been fairly cheap. Recently I have decided that the new year I am going to update my rates based on many factors. First of all, I seem to be losing money by offering "packages". I think I need to start selling the liners/ID's by them selves and offer a discount for bulk orders. I mean, one of my packages, after calculating it, it comes down to $5 per liner!!!!! So, my advice to you my friend is to have a set price, and set prices for internet stations at an affordable rate. Your prices are pretty low, even for internet broadcasters. Alot of my clients prepay for there voice overs...I don't mind if you steal that idea ;) Check out my site if you want to see how it works. I'm in the process of editing my price list though... -JB Jon Bova "Successful people have libraries. wildun
Keep in mind that internet broadcasters do not generally make money. Most VO folks have different rates for them. Industry standards say I should get $100 per page for my webdesign, I say NO. Once I make the page it is used on every page.
JBVoice
Industry standards, I believe are generally union members? I am not a part of a union for my voice overs, I have considered looking into it, but decided...staying independent is whats best for me... Your prices reflect how serious you are. Whether or not you are doing this full time, or part time. It also really depends on how much of a demand you are in. I, at one time, when I was with a different company I had about 40 regular clients, and I was forced to raise my rates. It depends on ALOT, that is just my experience -JB Jon Bova "Successful people have libraries. The rest have big screen TVs. - Jim Rohn"
producerpinnell
Many thanks for all of your responses. They have made me think about how much I might charge when I come to renew my rates. I charge as much as I do at present due to a number of factors, although have not had much call for Voiceover work in the past few months. People have asked me for imaging production more, which doesn't surprise me, as I've not really pushed my voiceover work as much as I could have. Obviously all of the prices I charge are, and can be changed depending upon the clients personal needs, or to coincide with what they've ordered. However, in the New Year, I'll be getting a new microphone, so will be able to do more paid voiceovers, and also supply freebies to you guys here at BW. And it's with this new microphone I will be running a promotion, whereby people who want voiceovers, will get to pick how much they pay for it. It's my way of seeing how much people are willing to pay for my voice, and to work prices out from there too. I would like to say thanks again, for all your comments and advice. It has really been great!
kiwiborn
Industry standards, I believe are generally union members? -JB Not at all. Union fees are different again (at least from my understanding). I do not belong to the union, because of the cost!

kiwiborn
Cost to join a union? Some union that is.... It is the industry union for musicians, actors etc... some horrendous amount like 15,00 -2000.

JBVoice
Not at all. Union fees are different again (at least from my understanding). I do not belong to the union, because of the cost! I guess your right, I looked into it just now and the prices on Voices.com are standard, PERIOD. lol. However, NO internet station of my knowledge could afford that. I was pretty shocked recently when I got a call for a national commercial for an acne product. Their pay is $1500, plus $400 a month for 3 months for their "follow up" commercials which are basically re do's. I'm not use to that kind of pay for my work, so I am pretty excited about that, I had NO idea people can make THAT much for ONE commercial lol. -JB Jon Bova "Successful people have libraries. producerpinnell
I think It can be safely said that the final price for any work we produce, whether it be voiceovers, imaging, etc can be decided between the voiceover artist and the client, at their discretion, although the prices shown on Voices.com are a real good insight into how much could be charged. Obviously the smaller stations and Internet stations may not have that kind of money to splash out, which is where the discretion is advised, and no clients needs are ever the same really, from my own experiences. wildun
I agree .. each station is different on internet radio .. want to build a following, cut them some slack. Not every station has a budget, we are an independent group, they just do music.
