Punk101
ug50....You can make money from streaming by contacting organizations that sell products that are based around what your station broadcasts. Have them put ads on your homepage or have radio commercials. You can also go to google and sign up for google adsence. They will put ads based around the content of your website on your site and pay you a set price for each person that clicks on the ads.....hope this was some help....kris
tgrradio
We have a donations link, we also have some ads, but its hard to make money doing this until you get some good steady traffic.
djMot
To this point, Girls Rock Radio has been "listener supported" only. In other words, we have a PayPal "donate" button where listeners (or even artists) can send us some money. This has not proven lucrative. With higher listener numbers, and perhaps some incentive to donate - like giving away a T, gift card, or something of that sort - it might be more productive. Girls Rock Radio will be looking into doing just that, but I also feel that compelling content at the station's web site is vital to keeping listeners coming back rather than just bookmarking the stream in their player. With improved traffic, you become attractive to all kinds of advertisers. Geotargeting is another concept that has to be dealt with. If the website can identify the location of the visitor and serve advertising targeted to that geographical market - a city, or a state/province/country, you open the doors to advertising on a more micro scale, whereas being a global entertainment provider, you might not have much to offer the regional advertiser since they realize the global market you offer them is not relevant for their services. Site statistics are also of vital importance in compiling advertising related demographics to present potential advertisers. That's probably only scratching the surface, and GRR has yet to implement any of these concepts - but I'm working in it. ;) djMot
lumper5
Late arrival to this topic. First, my Loudcity royalty license disallows in-stream ads (unless I negotiate a SESAC deal myself - and at over $200/year I'm not about to do that). So, no ads on stream. Also, no ads other than partner links on site. I've found that ads on a site tend to decrease paypal payments since the impression is that you have advertising, so you must be making money. I have paypal buttons throughout my site. I usually get about $50-60/month on average, which is about 45% of my monthly expenses. I've gotten as much as $300, but that was one-time fluke. Obviously, I am purely a "hobbyist" station. Keith

MADcHATTER
iWebRadio.com also exists thanks to listener support. We also post some ads and we have signed up for various and sundry Affiliate programs that people can purchase things online. They probably were going to buy them anyway and all they have to do is go thru our links or store pages, we get a commission and they still get the same price or better! We have an Adsense block to, but people dont really use it. Also, selling Music thru iTunes can help. Pennies add up. Since we started this, iWebRadio has been self-support where before we had to all chip in to keep it going. Profit is not our goal...fun is! We are still doing this for the sheer love of it! Besides, if we make no money...they cant take any from us! lol

Doctorwho
Shoot, now a days, unless your station is hosted off LC (loudcity.com) you best NOT use your station to to sell, or earn money for profit. FCC or the feds would be on your back door step before you can say "Grandma Perry!"

MADcHATTER
One of the benefits of broadcasting out of a foreign country like France. The Government can rattle it's saber all it likes! NAFTA made it easy for US companies to move out to other countries because profit was the bottom line. Well we're not in it for profit, but we're not about to be raped for it either! lol

DJStormBringer
You can make money, only if your station is in the eye of the public. It's the sort of thing where you have to spend money to make money. You should spend a lot of money on advertising, and in a perfect world your station will get a lot of listeners. Then big companies will ask you to run advertisements for them and get paid. Personally, I am not in this for money I do it for the fun of it. I broadcast no different if I have 0 listeners or 100 listeners. That's what sets me and others apart from the amateurs. I am not saying I am a professional broadcaster, but I am better than a lot of the newcomers. You might be able to find a sponsor that is willing to pay the bills, but as for actual profit. Unless you get a good station going like .977, you won't be making a whole lot of money. You will actually have trouble cutting even at the end of the month. JBVoice
I don't know about the current station I am with, though the guy seems to be very well off with google ads and donations etc. But one of the other stations I worked with made about $500 a month, and that was after paying for the streams, website etc. He even paid the most popular show hosts money! I made maybe $25-$30 a show, which wasn't bad lol, even though it was once a week. The way he made money, according to him and his wife was this: He teamed up with a local community radio station, they broadcasted their morning show on this station, which broght alot of listeners to the website. Google ads was getting maybe 1000-2000 page impressions a day. I also got an interview with a HUGE band called All Time Low, who I went to school with and was best friends with, before they got signed and went on MTV and such. This brought ALOT of money in. The problem with this station was, the guy became very greedy, and begain running the station downhill by causing drama. Drama kills any station. He tried controlling what the DJ's could play, which made ratings go down. Then the station died. So, it is VERY possible to make money. Just don't let the money change how you run the station! -JB Jon Bova "Successful people have libraries.
