Cptsparkle introducing himself

Hello to all,

It was mentioned to me that I get on here and introduce myself so ok...here I am.

I'm an "older" fellow that recently retired from the military after 26 very exciting and fullfilling years. I was brought up in a family that always had a member in show business. My mother was a dancer for the old Carol Burnett show. One brother was the lead gutarist for The Cryan Shames. Another brother was the drummer for The Boxtops. My best friend as a child and high schooler now owns R&R Cases. Choosing the military after high school ended my music dream but I always wanted to be connected to it somewhow.

Growing up in Chicagoland I was exposed to the legendary stations such as WCFL, WLUP and WVON. I used to listen to WVON on Sundays just to listen to Gospel music. In those days it was the only uptempo and rock type music you could find on AM radio then.

Moving forward to today...I broadcast for www.rockxstream.net It is a 24/7 non-profit online station playing classic and alternative rock. We maintain a request line and the station also maintains a huge catalog of music. We stream at 24 and 64 KBs so all can listen. We are fully licensed and go through SWCast to stay legal. All the DJs and site owners consider this a hobby. Myself and one of the owners do want our little station to grow somehat.

My first attempt at this was with some folks on Stickam. No thanks is about all I can say now. Stickam is free, full of drama, lousy sound, people who think broadcasting with a cigarette hanging out of their mouths is cool, people that openly smoke pot on cam and tons of people that have no clue. Oh yea, did I mention free? My caveat to that statement is remember, "you get what you pay for!" I'm so glad Stickam is behind me.

My focus in radio is to entertain. I firmly believe personality radio is not dead. A prominent jock from Chicagoland stated at the beginning of the week, "personality" radio is dead. I can understand why he would make that statement but I stand firm in my belief that it is still alive in some of us. I attempt to entertain the listener the best I can. That is attempted through the use of new music, new comedy bits and speaking to the listener as if he/she is sitting next to you.

I currently live in San Francisco, CA with my wife, two dogs and two cats. I broadcast through three MXL V63 mics, an EPM Soundcraft mixer, Alesis Compressor/Limiter, M-Audio Mobile Pre USB Audio Interface Device, two Denon CD players and we use Sony MDR-7506 headphones in the Sparkle Studio. Music is stored in a one T external HD.

So far, BW has been a great resource for knowledge and how tos. The contributors in this forum definately have displayed a great wealth of knowledge and I feel priveliged to be able to read all this.

Thanks to everyone and if anyone wants to give the show a listen I broadcast a Sunday show in the morning and a Tuesday show in the evening. I wouldn't mind someone listening to either show and giving me some criticism. Anything constructive would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again to all and Happy Holidays to everyone.

First of all, welcome to the site! Glad to have you! However, I'm going to have to disagree to a certain extent with stickam. I started a talk show on stickam the week stickam went online. Now, I admit, there is alot of drama...but it is a GREAT free way to promote and gain more listeners. I use stickam to broadcast a behind the scenes webcam feed during my radio show, last Wednesday...stickam added us on their featured home page list (good to be friends with the Admins) and during my shows I easily hold about 1400-1700 viewers and about 70-80 chatters in the chat room.

I have also have had some bad experiences with stickam, and yes the sound some times does suck, though for a behind the scenes feed with a link to your stations website is what stickam is used best for :)

Anywho, WELCOME once again!
