tjmarx
Hey Guys, I'm looking for a bit of help with Zara Radio and Edcast. I downloaded Edcast tonight to attempt to use Zara Radio with my station. While the broadcast came through (however somewhat delayed and lacking any meta data) it was EXTREMELY distorted. It sounded very much like someone listening to music at max volume through cheap tiny speakers. My station streams at 64bit which streams perfectly clear with the AutoDJ or with SAM Broadcaster (please don't tell me to use SAM), but it's streaming all distorted through edcast with zara radio. All I did to link Zara Radio to Edcast was select Stereo Mixer from the drop down. I did try mono mixer from the drop down but that didn't change anything. Could someone give me some help here? Would be very much appreciated.
johny c
I had a play with it and got the same problem as you. This is how to fix it. Take the output of your sound card to an outboard mixer. Then back in the line in input. On the windows mixer have the record line in ticked and the play control line in muted. Set edcast to Line in recording and adjust the volume with the slider below to a good level. Problems should fixed. tjmarx
I just realised by outboard mixer Johny C means a physical mixing board. shh I'm slow today. Unfortunately I don't have one of those. Is there a work around that can be applied without the need for additional hardward?
johny c
Had another play around with it and found edcast works by the recording inputs, make sure the volume is set right on what ever one you have selected (on the windows mixer, not too High), be it wave or record master. Also make sure the wave is not muted in the play controls in the windows mixer. I can get the volume down with mine without a mixer. It was just that I have a mixer inline for a mic input. To get the data showing go to Zara tools, options, General and you will see the CurrentSong file output, copy that and then go to Edcast Metadata edit, External Metadata, file and paste it in the box with \CurrentSong.txt on the end of the location, when thats done it should show. Good luck When you play the output of the stream, it will be delayed by about 10 seconds, give or take a bit. tjmarx
Ok that fixed the distortion. I don't have the meta data file where you said to find it though. I'm using version 1.61 free of Zara Radio, I'm not sure that this version supports meta data? I've found another problem as well. I run a Samson C01U USB mic, which runs separate to the sound card. I'm using just the onboard sound card in the PC which is a RealAudio '97 chip for music play back and I have the Samson USB Mic for live speech. Any ideas how to link to too so that I can still talk live?
johny c
The current playing txt file is in the Zara program folder for that version RAG-FM 107.7 Raglan New Zealand & ragfm.com ........"Top Music Top of the Dial" Click HERE to listen to the RAG-FM radio stream
