Multiple locations on one broadcast

With regard to broadcasting I am generally a voiceover artist(struggling to say the least) but for years now a friend of mine and I have been discussing doing what was originally a public access cable show but that was before the internet "fad" caught on, now we are considering actually doing it as a web radio/podcast show, think Howard Stern meets Rush Limbaugh type of thing, we'll be rude and crude and make fun of pretty much everything but instead of talking about the rack on the hooters girls in the studio we'll discuss current events. My cohost is a funny guy and so am I but when you get the two of us together look out, enough about that.

Here's the issues I need to work out, the schedule is very difficult with my work and kids, baseball, etc. and the other guy lives about fifty miles away so we will have to do the show from each of our house. I have webpages and bandwidth but I need to be able to to this in a live format preferrably broadcast live, any suggestions.

If I remember correctly, most people use skype to do this.

While I have never used Skype I did think of it but with no knowledge of it, I wonder will we be able to interact almost as if in the same room? We must be able to do that or the silence delays waiting trying to figure out what the other is saying, and since we are creating this from whole cloth with no sponsorship we really can not afford to have any turn offs like that certainly would be.
