Alex had been suffereing from throat cancer for the past few years and his body was just an empty brittle shell of the vibrant and flambouyant exhibitionist we all loved and new. He will be sadly missed and the world of snooker is a far worse place on his parting. God bless Alex. Rest in Peace. GKIye
I'm not into the snooker game but I do remember his name Higgins ... Was that during the beginning (early) years of snooker in the UK and Europe (mid 80s) ? Thanks for sharing Visit and listen @ BW !
Jinglemaster
Alex won the world championship in 1972 and again in 1982, the latter when he beat Ray Reardon. He had his problems over recent years, drink and brawling getting him into trouble with the governing body. This was how he looked very recently along side the great Jimmy White: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/colnesnookerclub/icons/snookerhallpictures/higgins_white385x18_176029a.jpg
