I was upset this evening to hear of the tragic death of the worlds finest ever snooker play, Alex 'Hurricane' Higgins. his frail lifeless body was only discovered when the door to his sheltered hosuing flat was broken down by police.

 

Alex had been suffereing from throat cancer for the past few years and his body was just an empty brittle shell of the vibrant and flambouyant exhibitionist we all loved and new.

 

He will be sadly missed and the world of snooker is a far worse place on his parting.

 

God bless Alex. Rest in Peace.

Alex won the world championship in 1972 and again in 1982, the latter when he beat Ray Reardon.

 

He had his problems over recent years, drink and brawling getting him into trouble with the governing body.
