GKIye
Looking at the specifications I guess this is more likely a mic for vocals aka singing ... MXL makes at their website always a reference to the use of it ... example : broadcast at MXL vocals don't stand for "broadcast" see this link of the 770 as example : http://www.mxlmics.com/products/Studio_mics/770/770.html Visit and listen @ BW ! JamesAllen
I was recently looking and saw the MXL 909 mentioned as a really good mic at a good price. It's recommended by legendary VO guy Harlan Hogan. Although saying that he actually has his own VO mic - the VO: 1-A which is made by MXL to his specifications. I'm really tempted to go for it along with quality USB preamp Micport Pro. Only problem is ordering from the USA and getting stung with nasty import taxes and a high delivery charge.. :( Worth looking at though: http://voiceoveressentials.com/content/vo-1a-voiceover-microphone.htm
billh
Phil, I don't plan on using it to broadcast. I'm only going to use it for recording. "I'm Retired" Donations PayPal.Me/artistview . Joonas Piiroinen
If you have a chance to get it cheap I would go for it Bill. I have tested many MXL mics including 990 and I think it's good for vox recording overall. Shame that I don't have the recordings anymore on my computer. :( In my opinion specifications are not the most important thing to notice in this mic category. Of course there are some points which are important, but that mic in it's specifications is good for voiceover recording for example. Very solid midrange and bass isn't bad at all. How are you going to connect it?

SouthOMike
Hi Bill, I just received my Behringer Xenyx 802 mixer, and the MXL 990 mic. I'm still toying with the settings on the mixer (and software) so will give you a more in-depth report in a few days. Has good heft to it, and set up fairly easy on the mic stand...
