POWERRADIO97
ok so i decided to start up an online radio station and i need help with getting the necessary licenses for me to get up and running. i've already purchased a ShoutCast server for my streaming and also purchased a web hosting account for my website. All i need now is these darn Licenses. i was gonna go the Live365 route but it was to expensive for my budget. i've seen here that i can get licenses from LoudCity.net and SWCast.net and i'm actually looking at the SWCast.net route because its a cheaper route but its says that i have to broadcast my station from their site. its there a way that i can purchase the licensing plan they have and still broadcast from my site with my own shoutcast player? can somebody help me and let me know if this is the right way to go about things? thank you
GKIye
Interesting can be to mention your location/country where you are living, for reason that most of the licenses are all different. That way members gonna be able to answer your question ... PS : Welcome to BW ! Visit and listen @ BW !

shoutcaststreaming
You probably mis-read it or it wasn't clear. With either service, you broadcast from your site, not from their site. LoudCity has a new service called LoudCaster, which allows you to broadcast from their servers, aka Auto DJ. Most people in the States use either one. There are reviews on both here on BCW. That means a LoudCity.com web page opened in a full window with a visible navigation bar. It's like this, websites need to be licensed and pay royalties when making use of music. Your performances on LoudCity.com are legally covered. If you are going to be performing music on your personal website then you are 100% responsible for securing your own licenses or owning up to the consequences for not securing your license. The RIAA is happy to explain who-what-when-where and why. i don't know about SWCast.com tho.
shoutcaststreaming
1- You are still broadcasting from YOUR PC (or server) 2- They just make you go through their URL to comply with the licensing requirements of BMI, ASCAP, Sound Exchange, etc. and auditing purposes. You control your stream, not them. shoutcaststreaming
Most people on here don't use SWcast. You should just call them on their toll free telephone and ask them that question. BWorld
I cant think of a licensing company that allows this since the start of the stream MUST originate from who holds the license (SWCAST or LOUDCITY) ██ Stream101 | Affordable Media Solutions ██ Shared cPanel? saint
Your stream / broadcast can provide a wealth of information. Not only can it entertain but it can also inform. You can do a pre-roll stream announcement, in addition to announcements within the actual stream itself. Think outside the box and make your station unique ! Just putting a link will not guarantee that people will visit your station, announcing your station website in the broadcast will not guarantee that people will visit your station. What will guarantee people to visit a website - is an audio advert / link that grabs their attention and makes them curious. Content is absolutely king and will keep them coming back. Take a look in the section of marketing your station in the streaming media handbook. shoutcaststreaming
Why is it so difficult to abide by the rules? Everybody else does. Well, most everybody. POWERRADIO97
Why ? What happend ? the licensing is to expensive... i purchased a shoutcast server, webhosting and some software in order to start off my the broadcast but i don't want to start broadcasting without having the licenses needed and i can't afford it and i don't want to get in trouble. i can easily save up but i'm also jammed up with regular bills which prohibits me from purchasing the licenses. Why is it so difficult to abide by the rules? Everybody else does. Well, most everybody. abiding by the rules is what's keeping me from starting it off... i don't want to start streaming without having the licenses needed because the last thing i need is getting fined for streaming copyright material, but they too damn expensive. tried to go the LoudCity and SWCast route but your only supposed to broadcast from their website which is cool but i want people to be able to listen from my website or mobile devices too and i can't... tried to go the Live365 route but to me they are rip-offs im not gonna pay $100 a month for only 60 listeners. i'm still trying to find a solution before i totally quit trying but there so much i can do. i will be totally grateful if somebody can help me find a better solution or route i can go with. balward
loudcaster is pretty good. I used them during their testing time before it was actually available and apparently I had good numbers. My station was actually mentioned in an article from Boston.

voodoohippie
Loudcaster does allow listing in the Shoutcast directory. It automatically lists in Radiotime's directory as well. Its very easy plus you can do live broadcasts as well. If your stream is interrupted either via power failure or your net glitches it will take over with the AutoDJ feature.
