billh
Damn internal computer noise. I did a couple of recording and of course I noticed a noise. So I started checking everything. So I thought ok, turn the mic off, pull the plug from the computer, just so I know it's not the mic etc.. So I just hit the record button, then normalize, removed noise and then compressor. Checked all of my settings, I even changed a couple just to make sure and I still get the noise. The attached mp3 files is what I am getting in my files. Sounds like it's from outer space So my sound card is picking up something, but what I can't tell. Any ideas? "I'm Retired" Donations PayPal.Me/artistview . I only do dry reads, if you want FX's you'll have to add them, I might add them. GKIye
Did you have contacted NASA ? I have similar "soundbits" into my library ... but never had a conflict like this My first idea was : its the noise you can get if an old tape (reel or cassette) was rewinded ... sounds similar to it Could be a good question for a radioshow ... Do you recognize this noise "and" WIN .... Visit and listen @ BW !

EricVdM
Billh, do you have something magnetic next to your computer, that can conflict sometimes your soundcart and make some static (out of space) noice
Arfa B
That sounds like a recording mkade at at strange bit rate- that can't be played back proiperly by anything that plays a NORMAL bit rate! It may be due to the fact that the mice was not plugged in & (I am guessing here) that the USB (?) input had no reference, so the recording "went Mad".... If I have helped you with a Freebie- please be kind enough to add a link from your own site or blog to mine- thanks! http://arthurburton.net Thank You! billh
I don't keep anything magnetic near computer. never do that I am using an MXL XLR mic, hooked up to a Xenyx mixer. The file above is with the mic and mixer turned off, it wasn't even hooked up to the computer. All I did was hit the record button (with everything turned off) and thats the noise I get. I got the noise using two (2) different recording programs. Checked all of the bit rates, they are all set at 16 bit and 44. 1 Hz. I even checked the drivers and they are up to date. The only thing I can think of it's the sound card itself. So I am going to try a different sound card today and see if it changes anything. "I'm Retired" Donations PayPal.Me/artistview . Arfa B
What computer Bill? laptop, Desktop etc etc etc etc OS, software etc The more info, the better. I can produce that noise if I screw up a recording/corrupt a file, or make a file that won't play back properly because the playback softwawre can't decode or understand the bit rate etc. So, the clue lies there! Take a close look at sound card setting/properties. Are ALL the fader setting down or muted also? (Doubt it is that though) Still sounds like a file that is recorded in a strange sort of PCM format or something, that really ISN'T an .mp3 file at all! Even though it has the .mp3 extension when being named and saved! Probably a software saving setting! billh
Well I played and changed every setting I could think of. Forget what in the he!! I did, but I think most of it was the "Line In" settings. But anyway the mp3 files sound a lot better. Hmm I thought I posted what I was using.... HP Desk Top Vista - 32 bit system Realtek sound card Codec ALC888 HD Audio DirectX 10.0 (Getting a Sound Blaster) Using Audacity and Free Audio Editor, both work pretty good for free software. If one can't do it, it seems like the other one can. Just ordered Cool Edit Pro selling on eBay for GBP 14.95 = $24.00 USD (I know Arfa you told me about it a while back and I just ordered it *months later* ;) ) "I'm Retired" Donations PayPal.Me/artistview . mattskills
The CD drive can often create this 'internal noise' , muting the cd output might help Matt. http://mattskills.net/helpstuff/forum1.jpg
