Arfa B
Yes, you have had loads and loads and loads of FREE Voicevers... after all we are NOT a charity- even though it may look like it! We are in general - just kind people, who generally get taken for granted.... or to some who visit, "a bunch of losers- who haven't got anything better to do wuth their time than give away their work- coz, they can't get any paying gigs!" To those that think like that- you are WRONGGGGGGG! (And, VERY quickly you will learn NOT to think like that, coz' I use a simple "IGNORE USER" system- which is very easy to implement through BW!!!) Many Voice Over artists get plenty of paying work- but, I like to help people who cannot afford to pay the big bucks! On the other hand, I get a little annoyed when obviously commercial (they always deny that they are- do they really think I was born YESTERDAY?) or long reads are requested, or multiple reads are requested, especially without any REAL sign of offering a little sign of something in return. If you keep on taking/ or take too much, then you are in a word.... GREEDY! If you wanna' be a LOSER- go to the well known places to go and blag- freebies for losers! Not here! The way of the corporate driven world in 2010, sadly makes nobody happy! look at the state we are all in!?! (Once again, most of those problems, simply boil down to greed!!!!:() It's really nice Karma to give things away sometimes! But, please don't abuse it! Because it is YOU that will lose out in the short and long term! So, go and think about it! Rant over! but, needed to be said! If I have helped you with a Freebie- please be kind enough to add a link from your own site or blog to mine- thanks! http://arthurburton.net Thank You! billh
The last time I counted it was around 12 or so, maybe more. He posted request within requests. I added him to the "IGNORE USER" list when he posted his last request, I think it was anyway. I've added a couple of people to this list, because they did what your doing, take, take and take some more. As a friend and I say, We are rich with "NOTHINGNESS" Thats what we get in return for helping others... Nothing (Not everyone, but there is more nothingness. ) "I'm Retired" Donations PayPal.Me/artistview . I only do dry reads, if you want FX's you'll have to add them, I might add them. radioreggie
Thankyou K4RL. As I said before we are a NON PROFIT school radio station and like to give the kids a bit of recongnition within the school and we do not have the budget to afford professional Voice Overs. Thanks for the vo's you did for us billh they were great! :-) And the ones you did K4RL brilliant :-)
johny c
As I said before we are a NON PROFIT school radio station and like to give the kids a bit of recongnition within the school and we do not have the budget to afford professional Voice Overs. Then now I think its the time to learn from whats been given freely and start trying to make your own and then share them with us, so we can give you a few pointers on what works and dosnt work. Nothing better than giving it a go your self. That way everyone is happy and the students will get pride from their own work. K4RL
In all fairness I applaud the fact that young people are taking an interest in radio (TV Sucks) and I am all for helping people get into the industry. I think its great that the school is supporting students in this way and allowing them to explore the industry. Lets face it, I would sooner do something free for a good cause like that than for someone who runs a commercial station. Its all a bit of fun for them and I for one am glad to see youngsters taking an interest and I personally would encourage it. Who knows Linden Wade might be the next chris moyles ? and I dont mean fat and gobby lol
billh
Karl, I agree with you. I don't mind helping anyone, but it gets to the point you can't keep doing request after request. It kind of bothers you that some people just keep posting one request after another. No one is looking to get a top dollar/pound donation or anything. But if someone is learning about radio etc. they need to learn they need a budget for things as well. Not everything is free. We are not trying to be rude or mean, but. How long can anyone keep doing free work? Anyone here go to work and have their boss just say, Thank you. But we aren't going to pay you for doing all of this work, A Thank You should be good enough. K4RL
I agree totally Bill and I think the work the VO and Production guys do on here is 100% but the reason I did the VO's for these guys is simply that they are a school project and I look at it in the way that if kids are getting into radio this way then its a good thing. Maybe I am in the wrong but I am just happy to see young uns doing something I would of loved to of done at their age. If we manage to get just one of them a job in the industry or even to just be as passionate about it as some of the guys here then is it really a bad thing ? Maybe I am getting too soft in my old age lol
johny c
Hi Karl its great that you feel that way, we all do here, but as I said its time for them to have a go them selves, learn from what you and the others have done for them, try to copy them, thats how we all started around here. No one is being nasty here. We all learn by doing things ourselves, age is no barrer. (This is me in my peace keeping role lol, Ive been here a long time and Ive seen this free voiceover section cause a few problems and make tempers rise.) billh
Johny has the right idea, post a demo voice over and people will let them know what they are doing right or wrong. Best way to learn, post a demo and get all the help you need. "I'm Retired" Donations PayPal.Me/artistview . I only do dry reads, if you want FX's you'll have to add them, I might add them. Arfa B
I'm sorry guys, I don't see ANY reason to back down, this guy IS abusing our kindness full stop!!!! I will certainly add him to my IGNORE list! Wanna' know why.... I'll tell ya!!!! He has asked for this request before AND HAD IT DONE!!! Obviously, the hard work put in for FREE last time wasn't good enough for him!!! If it was my site - I would ban him! Want proof.... here we go! http://www.broadcastingworld.net/forum/showthread.php?t=10009 nuff said! K4RL
Its your prerogative to add him to your ignore list so feel free to do it. I do feel banning a school kid is a bit OTT though ? If you don't want to do a VO for him then simply move to the next thread, if someone decides they are worthy of one then so be it ? They are a group of non profit making school kids trying out internet radio and not some huge multi national broadcasting monster with unlimited funding. TBH I think its great what this schools doing and I only wished my own kids school would do the same :(. I really must be getting old.
Arfa B
So, you don't mind someone ignoring the work you have done for them already? Or, that they can't even be bothered to remember that you had done it for them? I support the concept of school radio, but I DO NOT support someone that is so fickle that they neither apppreciate, respect kindness and can't even be bothered to find out what they have been kindly given for FREE!!! So, this indicates to me- that the freebies that have been done for Mr. Radioreggie mean NOTHING to him- and therefore have NO VALUE to him! If they mean NOTHING to him, then that means doing any work for him means ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to me! Therefore, I move on..... and like him, I shall totally FORGET about him! Shooolkid or not is irellevant- he needs to learn to show a little respect! If I have helped you with a Freebie- please be kind enough to add a link from your own site or blog to mine- thanks! http://arthurburton.net Thank You! K4RL
I did the VO in question and I don't see it as disrespectful for him to want a different take on it? If the VO I did was not what was originally required then why should they not get a chance to ask for one that's more suitable ? Like I said in the thread, my voice ain't the best and I do this for the fun of it AND to try and give something back to the site. I don't claim to be a pro nor do I claim that I have the kind of voice that everyone is after. If for a particular reason what I did was not what was wanted or expected then I am not gonna sit here with a strop on cos it wasn't good enough. From what I can see there are a few of them doing this at the school and not everyone of them will want the same miserable Mancunian Muppet doing the same voice for each show. Just for the record I CHOSE to do the ammount of VO's I did and was not asked for the extra ones and in all fairness I was thanked and even given rep for what I did so they must of had a little value to him so that's good enough for me. K4RL
Just to add, they were asked for in the FREE section and so it is up to the individual as to if the request is fulfilled or not. In general if I see something I don't want to or do not think I am able to get my mouth around then I usually leave it for the more talented guys like yourself to do. billh
If they are non profit school radio station, how old are these kids 10,20? I don't see a problem with them posting a voice over of there own and getting help with it. But request after request is more or less against the rules. Yes there is no limit to the number of request someone can make, but one after the other is to much. If they are young kids say about 10 or 13 years old, they should be asking questions as well. We have people here that can answer any questions they have about radio. If they are older say 18 or older, then they need to try and do their own voice overs. I will say though they are learning, you don't keep asking people that do voice overs for a living to keep doing free work. It more or less gets them upset. If and it's a very big "IF" they are very young kids I can more or less let this pass. Isn't anyone at the school helping them? But if they are older, well they need to learn how to come up with a budget for their station Or try doing their own voice overs. Enough said on this topic, learning or not. They got a good lesson from this topic. "I'm Retired" Donations PayPal.Me/artistview . I only do dry reads, if you want FX's you'll have to add them, I might add them. radioreggie
Thanks johny for the advice. Thank you Karl for putting your point forward, I think your voice is brilliant, you get plenty of laughs when you jingle goes off. And thank you Bill. I agree with all three, we are all 12-15 years of age and we dont get much help at all. We basically run it on our own, mainly me! organising things getting shows running, getting equipment for the studio. Most of the stuff in there is donated as we cannot afford it! But thanks for all of your work and i'm really SORRY for bothering you all. No hard feelings I Hope.
Arfa B
Hey, Radioreggie.... I APOLOGISE for getting a little upset at you. :D But, You could have and maybe should have made the situation clearer, to me anyway. I have been a little "put out" at some of the people who show less than a little appreciation around here recently. You are young, I was... and am sure I was a little too unappreciative of things going on around me at times.(and maybe still am!!!) If you had explained a little more- then, maybe this situation of a little annoyance would not have arisen.?!? OK- Here is what I shall do, a complete Peace offering, in the way of an apology from me (nobody is EVER RIGHT or EVER WRONG).... only, let me know in detail, and I promise to make you a package like this listed here ... PACKAGE D TWELVE ID's, Sweepers, Station ID's, DJ ID's or Stabs FULLY PRODUCED to your very own specifications. These may be up to 15 seconds in total length. Prices are also shown for DRY reads and also DRY READS with added effects like Reverb & Echo, Filtering, Flanging, Phasing and other BASIC special effects like pitch changing and stretching etc. Conversely, fully produced includes backing Music and produced sounds/stingers etc Normally costs, well look it up yourself: http://www.arthurburton.net/prices_uk.html ALL FOR FREE!!!! Whether you take up or refuse the offer is up to you. I am not a person with anything less than good intentions for all. But, please - do remember, there are ways to ask! Good Luck anyway, and from the 70's......................P E A C E ! AB. If I have helped you with a Freebie- please be kind enough to add a link from your own site or blog to mine- thanks! http://arthurburton.net Thank You! Guest Baabaa Productions
Just gone through this thread and it occurs to me that better communication would help us decide how we can help members. A bit of background information gives us a guide. I have done a VO for R Reggie with production on another thread just to help out. I dont often do VO's as I am dwarfed by the likes of Arthur and many others. I do think freebies are important for this site and as long as members give information, communicate well and are respectful we can provide valuable assistance. Finally Arthur what a great offer to R Reggie, you have a great voice and the package you have offered would grace any professional station. Its an incredible offer and R Reggie snap his hand off. jamesdean
Wow! I wish I was half the man Arfur is. He had a rant which at the time was justified, he is humble enough to apologise if wrong and goes out of his way to make things right. A top man in my opinion is St. Arfur of Farmland. K4RL
Well what can I say ? My total respects Arthur. I don't think Arthur was wrong and I certainly don't think he was ranting for ranting sake, I understand his frustration. I apologise if I have come across as being a Muppet, I am just a believer in the theory that if we encourage the young ones to get involved in radio then the medium as a whole will live on in future years. With all these new fingle fangled music videos and TV channels and such things as itunes etc. in the world nowadays it makes my heart beat a bit better knowing that there are STILL kids out there who get excited about radio and want to give it a go. I would sooner help them than the idiots and free-loaders who come along looking for a freebie without so much as giving anything back. My hat goes off Arthur, your a good man. Maybe just maybe what you have done here might one day in the future inspire a young mind to become one of the industry's stars or even a great VO and production artist like yourself. johny c
No Karl we dont think your a muppet, its great having you here, its just the free voice over thing has caused a fair bit of anger in the past and we have had people leave because of it. I myself have got a bit hot on it in the past and was close to swearing. But its sorted and all well for the time being, but it will come around again you can bet on it.
