Best recording mic

Everyone is different, but it depends on your individual voice. I only use dynamic mic's. The condensor one's are great if you have a quiet voice- but, years of bellowing, has made me loud- all that and too much Rock'n'Roll!

I like the Electrovoice mic's personally!

If I have helped you with a Freebie- please be kind enough to add a link from your own site or blog to mine- thanks! http://arthurburton.net

Thank You!

Sermins,

If your looking for a good all around mic for your VO Studio, you might consider a Rode NT-1A. They don't call it the poor man's Neumann for nothing. Check out the NT-1A at the Rode website. You could get one through the mail at SweetWater or Guitar Center. Don't know any the spec's or prices... Hope this helps a little bit!

Kind Regards,

Jerry

After hearing Big Mouths excellent read's with his Rode NT-1A I am very tempted to upgrade to one. The pack that GKR posted looks ideal. My only concern is that with the pop filter mount on the shock cage that it'll be too heavy for my awesome Rode PSA1 desk mounted mic stand.

With my current setup I've had to do a DIY job on my pop filter to attach it to the shock cage so it isn't too heavy..

I have a feeling the whole thing is going to end up too heavy for my stand.. :(

JamesAllen,

Perhaps it's time for a proper boom to hold your stuff? You night want to check out the O.C. White Company and there broadcast arms. (OC White Broadcast Arms link) OC started out making industrial lamps and magnifiers and then took the boom of those items to hold microphones. I bought one of these several years ago and never have had a problem. Check it out and you'll never have to worry if your stuff is to heavy.

Kind regards,

Jerry

Hi Jerry, thanks for the link although I only recently bought the PSA-1 and it's really been working out well in terms of flexibility. So I'd prefer to find a way to make it work with the mic if possible. I know the mic and shock mount won't be an issue so if it came down to it I could just do another DIY job to attach the pop filter in a way that didn't add too much weight. Where there's a will.. ;)

I'll check out the link you posted though. Always good to be aware of future upgrade options.

JamesAllen,

Glad to be of some help... My first stand was a desk stand with a "goose neck" from Radio Shack that I place on my leg and held throughout the VO, that worked ok with my Blue USB Microphone called a SnowBall. Then I got the the Rode NT-1A and could no longer hand hold, so I got the OC White Boom. You'll eventually need a pro model...

Hi Jerry,

Ah yes lots of upgrade paths as time goes by. My current stand is pretty decent though - http://www.rodemic.com/accessory.php?product=PSA1. Great build quality and very flexible. Fits the bill perfectly at the moment with my current mic.

I was tempted to get a Blue Snowball for guests or for my researcher on a radio show I do each week. Looks like it would be ideal for that kind of use. Though if I upgrade to the NT-1A I'll just use my current mic as the secondary I think.
