I'm new to streaming, need info

Recommended Posts

We are a 5,000watt station with satalite feed. How does shoutcast work. What system do you have to have in place to run the streaming? Will it work straight from my satalite feed? I need to change to a different streaming system and shoutcast sounds soooo much cheeper. Any info would be great. Here is a link to our current streamer

The current company is a small local communications company and it has become a conflict of interest. We would like to part ways and try to find a nicer looking player with some buttons that can connect to other sites and facebook. Ill go check out your link. Thanks for the interest.

How does shoutcast work?

Shoutcast is a technology installed on home computers or dedicated servers for higher listener load. The broadcaster encodes to the server and the listener listens by connecting to it.

Best thing about shoutcast is its easy to set up and you can use any media player to tune in to your stream.

You can use free software if you have all your event scheduling in place already or something like SAM broadcaster if you need to works. If you have a basic internet connection get yourself a server from a reliable host as a home connection can handle 3-6 listeners maybe max.

There are a variety of ways to set it up. Again it depends on the software you decide to use but taking the feed to a computer soundcard would be a fantastic start.

Thats how its set up right now. There are 2 radios feeding the sound right into the 2 comp towers. After messing with all this stuff now I know why people pay a company to stream for them. I think thats what I will continue to do. Thanks eveyone and citrus3 for all your input.
