Radio station dropped in my lap

Recommended Posts

While I was living in Florida I met some people that owned a radio station in Virginia and found out it was having some employee issues and other things. So i offered to help and they gave me the salesman position. After moving up there the manager was so sure I was there to take his job after i learned the system he resigned 2 weeks after I got there. UH, OK, now what? well I had to learn the billing traffic and automation system in a day or two before the current logs ran out. Thank God for technical support. They can only help with so much though. So now it has been almost 2 months and I know everything needed to run the station daily. I want to take on more tasks to help pick this place back up and have it making money again. Everyone else was fired for stealing the ad(commercial) money. Right now its just me and a few contract DJ's. I really enjoy this and would like to continue for awhile. I would like anyone with the time and knowledge to listen to us and give me you opinions and feedback. Thanks all. Hope you enjoyed my true story.

Here is the live feed to listen. I made this free website too to help get more people interested in us. We have a facebook too, (WNVA Radio). Please let me know. I'm interested in everyones opinions on here. You all know way more than me about this business.

Johny : http://www.wnva.net will work probably.

Anyway Mark,

Can't tell much about how it sounds, because i'm only listening for a minute now, but in my opinion the website does need some work. Not trying to be rude or something like that, but this is not built by a professional in webdesigning, and you can see that.

Try to work with a cms like for instance joomla, find a nice template to go with it, and it will look a lot nicer and more professional. First thing i'm noticing very clear on the site, is that every subpage you click, has a different background. I see images with a link, which have a colored border, etc. Always try to find inspiration by looking at websites for big radiostations, and see how they are doing it. It always helps.

Music sounds nice, the DJ i'm hearing sounds good, so you're on a good way !

I didnt find it too bad, the only thing I didnt like was the red, a bit too loud for me. I like a web site that looks a bit diff these days because they are all starting to look alike with people just using templates. The sound's great.

Thanks for the input. I'm not offended one bit. You could tell me it looks like complete ****e and I wouldn't be offended. Thats why I asked for everyones feedback. Its kinda like a math problem. Take all the equations put them together and come up with the solution. So, thanks again and yeah Its a free website that I built with a simple template. Its really meant to be temporary to give people a place to link to the streaming. Keep the suggestions coming.

Ok, so maybe a little overboard on the red then. I can see that. Its hard with a template it changes it all to one set of color schemes. But just like I said before thanks alot for taking the time to look at it. I will make some adjustments based on your inputs and keep going from there. Still, I could use some advice on the actual business side of things too. Only if your up to it. L8tr...

Well, since i posted my comment yesterday i have been listening to it, which was for the whole evening. Which is a good sign because that means that it hasn't annoyed me :) I like the DJ's i've heard, i like the music mix and i like the way it sounds (processing etc). It really sounds like a professional radiostation, which is how it should sound.

Hope to get some more feedback and opinions. Not too bad for never setting foot in a station before 2 months ago. Im patting myself on the back.

  • 1 month later...

Well, is this considered an old thread yet? Meh, here goes.

Been listening for an hour or so now. The DJ sounds great, but the mixing is a little sloppy. You should get that fix.

Another thing that really annoys me is that it sounds like the frequency the webradio is tapped from is stuck between two station. If there is a little silence/low level on music I hear some other radio with talk and there non-hit songs, like a talk radio or something. Should definately check that out.

But, apart from that it all sounds very good. No jingles tho?

Hi, I just been on your website, what I noticed is the background is on every page diffenrent, some with background pic's and some with just a color.

Try to remove all the background pic's and just use 1 or 2 colors for all the pages and use soft colors or black / white. On some pages you use different sizes of fonts as txt, just use 1 size for titel and one for plain text.

If you will attrack people with your website you need a opening page that says what they will find on this website, so start with a page that says what they find on this site example:

Name of the radio, what kind of music they'll find, who are the DJ's, what's the programming, what's different in your station. etc. short why should they listen to your station and not to others.

I couldn't listen to it yet but will do tomorrow (it's middle of the night when I'm writing this) :sleep1:

I hope this helps a little bit.

Eric

I had a quick listen too, and while the music isn't too bad (some good variety there actually), I agree with tormorten when they say the mixing is sloppy...it sounded like dead air between most songs, but the idents and jingles I heard weren't too bad.
